Hollywood was on temporary pause but productions are gearing back up, release dates continue to be tweaked in preparation for theaters reopening, and things are slowly starting to return to normal – or at least, our temporary new normal. With the entertainment industry turning its attention to television and a number of movie productions either being in pre-production or production, major headline-worthy news has been scarce in the past week. Still, that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been interesting news to share.

Let’s hop to it.

Neve Campbell Says She’ll Be ‘Covered In Blood’ For ‘Scream 5’

Anticipation is high for the Scream franchise with Scream 5. Now that it’s been confirmed Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette are all returning, as well as a number of fresh new faces being added, it’s shaping up to be the perfect film to pass the torch from the OG cast to a new cast that will likely carry the franchise into the future. Still, that’s not going to stop Neve Campbell from giving it her all as Sidney Prescott, even if it’s 24 years later. During an appearance on The Talk, she gave some updates on the movie and joked that she’ll go as hard as she did when she was in her early-20s. “Oh you guys, I’m 47 and I’m going to be covered in blood,” she laughed. She also described how new directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet (Ready or Not) reassured her the franchise would be in good hands with them. Campbell had only ever worked with the late horror icon Wes Craven on the Scream franchise, so she was unsure about joining the project until the new directing duo sent her a beautiful letter that convinced her they’d honor Craven’s legacy. One day, I hope she shares that letter as we’d love to read it.

‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ Star Joins Cast Of ‘Doctor Strange 2’ – As America Chavez?

If anyone is still on the fence about Marvel (and possibly Marvel and Sony between them) building up to a shared multiverse, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will end that doubt with the title alone. The sequel, which begins shooting next May, just added a fresh new face to its cast. The Baby-Sitters Club star Xochitl Gomez has been added in an unspecified but pivotal role. Her addition has prompted fans to speculate she’s playing America Chavez/Miss America, not just because of America Chavez’s Latina background but also because of Miss America’s one specific power that makes her an obvious addition to make an appearance in the world of Doctor Strange. America has the ability to literally kick open holes in the fabric of time and space, opening doorways to other dimensions and realities. She joins a cast that includes, of course, Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Benedict Wong as Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Doctor Strange friend-turned-nemesis Mordo.

Newcomer Alyssa Wapanatâhk To Play Tiger Lily In ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’

After years of being Disneys’ most under-the-radar live-action remake, David Lowery’s Peter Pan & Wendy has picked up plenty of steam in recent months. First came the news that Jude Law is playing Captain Hook, then Black-ish and Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi was tapped to play Tinker Bell. Now, newcomer Alyssa Wapanatâhk has been added in the role of Tiger Lily. Wapanatâhk, a Canadian actress, is a member of the Cree (Nêhiyaw) First Nation and her casting confirms what we’d heard a few months back about the role. She won’t be the damsel-in-distress type she was in the 1953 animated version but instead a fierce warrior and wise ruler who protects the children of Neverland from Captain Hook. The role will reportedly be in both English and a native tongue. It’s unclear whether Wapanatâhk will be speaking in the Cree language or a made-up native tongue. In J.M. Barrie’s original Victorian-era book, Tiger Lily’s tribe was the fictional (and offensive) Piccanniny tribe and in the movie, her tribe was never specified. In any case, this modernized update for Tiger Lily has us excited.
