In September, we’re finally getting a slew of new movies hitting theaters, from Christopher Nolan’s hugely-anticipated next blockbuster to post-WWII revenge thriller to a sweet rom-com.

But what about the special theatrical events of September? Those one-time-only screenings that always prove to be amazing experiences? This list is for you. Here are the most anticipated special movie events heading your way in September.

1. TCM Big Screen Classics: ‘Airplane!’ 40th Anniversary

Release Dates: Tuesday, September 1; Wednesday, September 9

AFI voted 1980’s Airplane! one of the funniest movies ever made, and Fathom Events is bringing it back to the big screen for its 40th anniversary courtesy of TCM. Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty lead an incredible cast in the hilarious disaster movie spoof. Ted Striker (Hays) is a former WWII fighter pilot with a fear of flying and an unresolved flame for his old girlfriend, flight attendant Elaine (Hagerty). He’s determined to win her back so he screws up his courage and boards a flight she’s working – only for that flight, of course, to go disastrously off-course when the entire flight, including the pilots, get sick with acute food poisoning. The slapstick, zany comedy features a fantastic turn by the late comedic genius, Leslie Nielsen, an inflatable co-pilot named Otto, and some of the best one-liners ever put in a movie.

2. Dirty Dancing Re-Release

Release Date: Thursday, September 10

Nobody puts Baby in a corner and nobody is keeping Lionsgate from re-releasing their classic coming-of-age movie, Dirty Dancing. In the summer of 1963, 17-year-old Baby (Jennifer Grey) is vacationing for the summer with her parents in the Catskills. She soon crosses paths with Johnny (Patrick Swayze), the older, more experienced resort dance instructor and sparks fly. As he teaches her a dance routine over the weeks, they soon fall in love. But it’s a tale as old as time: A rich girl and a guy from the wrong side of the tracks fall for each other and the girl’s father forbids her from seeing him again. It was Grey’s breakout role and a truly star-making turn for the late Swayze. Luckily, you have the opportunity to see it on the big screen for the first time.

The Breakfast Club, the movie that defined an entire generation in the ’80s, with the Brat Pack cast to match: The Princess, Claire (Molly Ringwald); The Jock, Andrew (Emilio Estevez); The Brain, Brian (Anthony Michael Hall); The Rebel, Bender (Judd Nelson); and The Outcast, Allison (Ally Sheedy). The five wildly different teenagers from different social circles are forced to spend a Saturday afternoon together for detention. At first they want nothing to do with each other, but over the next few hours, they open up to each other and share their stories. By the end of the day, they leave feeling a genuine connection and wondering if they’ll ever be the same. The idea of such defined cliques in high school might be outdated now, but 35 years later and The Breakfast Club still has a charm that can’t be denied – and one of the most iconic end credits songs in pop culture history.
