Two months ago, Alisha wrote about how Jamie Foxx would be reprising his role as Electro for the upcoming Spider-Man 3 sequel, seemingly connecting the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man universe with the current MCU Spider-Man. She speculated, as many others did, that this meant we were getting a Spider-Man multiverse (a Spider-verse, if you will).

Well, that speculation is even more concrete now that it’s been confirmed that Alfred Molina will also be joining the film, reprising his role as Doctor Octopus from the Sam Raimi/Toby Maguire Spider-Man 2. So for those counting, that’s three Spider-Man universes colliding in this film, and if it looks like a Spider-verse and smells like a Spider-verse….

This also makes it pretty clear that the Sinister Six is coming. It likely won’t be the original lineup, since that included Mysterio, who died in the last go-round. But hopefully that means Michael Keaton’s Vulture is coming back. And with Peter Parker’s identity now public, the Sinister Six could follow the first storyline from the comics, way back in the 60’s, where they kidnapped Aunt May to force Spider-Man to confront them. While Marissa Tomei deserves to be more than a MacGuffin-damsel-in-distress, it would also be great to see her get to do more in the next movie.

Seems like the last bit of casting news that we’ll all be waiting on is the confirmation that Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be swinging in as their own Spider-Men. Maybe with a Donald Glover Miles Morales joining too? Please Marvel? Pretty please?
