Here at Atom Insider, we love to give love to the movies coming out every month. This month, we have a piece dedicated to all the biggest movies hitting theaters in October, as well as the top five October horror movie releases heading our way as the spooky season begins.

But what about the smaller and limited releases? What about special theatrical events? Those one-time-only screenings that always prove to be amazing experiences? This list is for you. Here are the most anticipated special movie events heading your way in October.

1. ‘Ghostbusters’ 35th Anniversary Screening

Release Date: Sunday, October 6 & Thursday, October 10

I was admittedly slightly too young to see the original Ghostbusters on the big screen, but lining up around the theater to see Ghostbusters II is arguably one of my favorite childhood memories. For those who have never gotten the chance to experience the OG Ghostbusters in a theater setting and with a group of people, now is your chance. If you now have kids of your own and want to share it with them, you finally have the opportunity to hop in the metaphorical Ecto-1, grab your proton pack, and bust some ghosts together. There’s a reason this is one of the most classic movies in what is arguably the greatest decade for movies. Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis, Annie Potts and Rick Moranis were at their comedic career heights and Sigourney Weaver and Ernie Hudson anchored the film with necessary humanity. Perfect movies almost never exist, but Ghostbusters just might be one of them.

2. Metallica and San Francisco Symphony: ‘S&M²’

Release Date: October 9

It’s rare that a band defines a generation, let alone keeps going for multiple generations. But Metallica has been around for almost 40 years as one of the founding bands of thrash metal. While they may not be going platinum and crushing record sales like they once did (then again, is anyone?), they still know how to pack an arena and make it headbang. Hard. Twenty years ago in 1999, the band recorded a series of legendary performances with the San Francisco Symphony titled S&M. The audio and concert footage were released as an album and concert film, respectively, and it hit the Billboard 200 at #2 and internet charts at #1. Now Metallica and the orchestra are getting back together for another filmed concert and it’s sure to be a guitar-thrashing, cymbal-clashing, headbanging great time.

3. ‘Alien’ 40th Anniversary Screening

Release Date: Sunday, October 13; Tuesday, October 15; Wednesday, October 16

Fathom Events is always great with the repertory anniversary screenings – just see Ghostbusters above. Their next huge, classic movie event on the list is the 40th anniversary screening of Ridley Scott’s Alien. The greatest sci-fi horror franchise ever made, the first Alien established Sigourney Weaver as a badass not to be messed with on the way to introducing us to a number of memorable lines and scenes forever etched into our minds. From the chestburster scene to the first shot of the alien Queen, Alien has been honored in homage and parody for four decades now and with good reason. It’s that groundbreaking and influential. Do yourself a favor and see it in theaters while you can.

4. Jay And Silent Bob Reboot

Release Date: Tuesday, October 15 & Thursday, October 17

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes have been making meta-stoner comedies for decades now. Their brand is strong, and so is their fanbase. That’s what prompted Smith to make Jay & Silent Bob Reboot. Almost 20 years ago, they headed to Hollywood in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back to stop a studio from making an unauthorized movie about their characters Bluntman and Chronic. Now, that movie is being rebooted and once again it’s up to our green-loving duo to put a stop to the reboot. But…is that all there really is to life or have they grown up? Be prepared for a film once again stuffed full of celebrity cameos and famous friends popping up in unexpected places. Fans of Kevin Smith will love this one for sure.
