Hollywood may have hit a temporary pause, but it’s slowly starting to look ahead. As actors continue to promote upcoming movies now on VOD or hitting home entertainment early and productions gear themselves to start back up later this year, things are slowly starting to return to normal – or at least, our temporary new normal. That means entertainment news has started to trickle in again. In case you missed it, here’s all the best news and tidbits from the last week.

Let’s hop to it.

Henry Cavill Might Not Be Done Playing Superman Quite Yet

If you’re one of the many fans who feel Henry Cavill has never had the proper chance to shine as Superman, good news. It was reported that Cavill has been in talks with Warner Bros. to reprise his role as the Big Blue Boy Scout. Sources say there are a number of ways he could return to the DCEU. Let’s cross our fingers and hope that it all leads to a Man of Steel sequel.

Doug Liman To Direct Tom Cruise’s Movie Shot In Outer Space

A few weeks ago, the news broke that Tom Cruise was teaming up with SpaceX and NASA to shoot the first narrative feature film partially shot in outer space. This week, it was announced that frequent Cruise collaborator and co-adrenaline junkie, Doug Liman, will be helming the movie, the first draft of which he’s already written.

Scott Derrickson Set To Direct The ‘Labyrinth’ Sequel After Leaving ‘Doctor Strange 2’

It was a bummer to learn earlier this year that Scott Derrickson parted ways with Marvel on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. Luckily, he picked up an incredible new project, being tapped to direct the sequel to 80s classic Labyrinth. Visually trippy dark fantasy should be right up Derrickson’s alley, judging from his previous work.

A Marvel Fan Has Sorted Every Scene From The MCU In Chronological Order

Some of us have taken our time in quarantine to learn how to bake sourdough bread, catch up on classic movies, or just recharge. Not so Tony Goldmark, who used his time to go through all 23 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and organize all the scenes in chronological order. Talk about dedication.

The Giant Plane Explosion Sequence In ‘Tenet’ Was Filmed As A Fully Practical Effect

There are few directors as dedicated to perfecting the art of the practical effect as Christopher Nolan. His practical visual sequences are the stuff Hollywood dreams are made of, and his upcoming film, Tenet, promises to push the envelope further than he ever has, starting with the plane explosion scene. During the trailer reveal, actor John David Washington confirmed that the effect was completely practical – yes, Nolan really did drive a jumbo jet into a building and blow it up. Long live Nolan.

You can catch that trailer below:

‘Dune’ Director Denis Villeneuve Spent An Entire Year On The Sandworm Design

Speaking of dedicated directors, Denis Villeneuve is hard at work on the hugely anticipated adaptation of Dune and he’s putting his entire focus into getting it right. In fact, he’s so detail-oriented that he revealed he spent an entire year – yes, one full calendar year – working on the design of the sandworms until the team came up with a design he was satisfied with. We really can’t wait to see what he does.

Issa López To Direct ‘Our Lady Of Tears’ For Blumhouse

A crazy article titled “The Haunting of Girlstown” appeared in Vox in tandem with Epic Magazine last week. The article told the story of an all-girls Catholic school in Mexico City that was gripped by a mass hallucination with a supernatural bent. Blumhouse was savvy enough to snap up a movie adaptation and tapped Issa López, director of the haunting Tigers Are Not Afraid, to direct. Now that is a perfect pairing.
