Just after we got the news that a sequel to Into the Spider-Verse is coming our way in 2022 comes more good news for comic book movie fans.

The Hollywood Reporter broke that a third Ant-Man movie has been greenlit, with director Peyton Reed set to return. Paul Rudd is reportedly returning for his fifth time as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, and we can assume Evangeline Lilly will also be part of it as his love interest and the more competent half of their duo, Hope Van Dyne/Wasp.

No release date details have been confirmed yet, but sources tell THR that they’d likely start shooting at the end of next year or early 2021 with an aim for a release in 2022. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder, both releasing in 2021, will likely shoot first.

At the moment, Marvel has four films planned for 2021, but only one film officially announced for 2022 in Black Panther 2, which is set for release on May 6, 2022. The first two Ant-Man movies were both released in July but proved to be two of the more modest returns for Marvel (which was still considerable). So the third film could keep a July date or be bumped to a February spot in 2022, which would be plenty of time even if filming doesn’t start until early 2021.

The previous movie, Ant-Man and The Wasp, was a delightful, action-packed movie that’s as close to a rom-com as anything we have in the MCU. It would be incredible if the third film could lean even further into the romedy aspect of it all.

In any case, we’ll keep you updated as we get more news on this and all other Marvel movies heading our way.
