Three days before Detective Pikachu‘s release, Ryan Reynolds decided to leak the movie early online. Well, kind of.

The Deadpool star, who provides the voice of Pikachu in this Friday’s new release, shared a “pirated” copy of the summer movie on Twitter that turned out to be a prank designed to rickroll fans. See for yourself below:

If you click through to the YouTube link, the Warner Bros. logo starts to play — along with the song “As Time Goes By” from the classic Warner Bros. film, Casablanca. Then, Pikachu‘s opening crane shot starts and — a minute into the footage — the scene suddenly transitions to the cute, yellow Pokemon aerobicizing on a dance floor. For 101 minutes.

Reynolds loves an online viral sensation. That’s how the first Deadpool movie helped become a thing, thanks to someone from the production’s camp leaking test footage of the character in R-rated, fourth-wall breaking action. The leaked footage was a huge hit with fans online, which prompted studio 20th Century Fox to greenlight the long-in-development project.

The account that posted the Pikachu leak has no other videos associated with it. So while we can’t 100 percent confirm Reynolds created it or the lone video, it’s a safe bet he or someone in his camp was behind this outside-the-box attempt to elevate the buzz on his new movie.
