Luke Perry, the actor best known for his role on FOX’s Beverly Hills 90210 and CW’s Riverdale, has died following complications from a massive stroke he suffered on Wednesday, Variety reports. He was 52.

Perry was hospitalized at St. Joseph’s in Burbank on the same day that FOX announced their plans for a six-episode 90210 meta-revival, one that would feature original cast members Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, and Tori Spelling playing versions of themselves. Perry was not among the announced cast said to be returning.

In 1990, Perry became a household name thanks to his iconic role as Dylan McKay on 90210. FOX’s hit series turned Perry and some of his cast mates into teen idols. Perry was on the show from 1990 to 1995, and then again from 1998 to 2000, the series’ final year.

Perry parlayed that success into feature film roles in 1992’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 1994’s 8 Seconds, and 1997’s The Fifth Element.

The late actor made a resurgence on the small screen again, thanks to his role as Fred Andrews, Archie’s dad and town sheriff, on Riverdale.

Perry’s final big-screen appearance will be in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, where he plays the real-life Canadian-American actor Wayne Maunder.

Variety reports that Perry is “survived by his daughter Sophie and his son, Jack.”
