Thirty years after their original movie arrived in theaters, Bill and Ted are finally getting another sequel.
Bill and Ted themselves – Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, respectfully – announced from the Hollywood Bowl that the long-gestating Bill & Ted Face the Music will start shooting this summer and will arrive in theaters August 21, 2020. Watch the announcement below:
Face the Music finds Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted “Theodore” Logan as middle-aged parents who are forced once again to embark on a time-traveling adventure when someone from the future pays them a visit. This person warns the duo that only a song from their band, Wyld Stallyns, can save all life in the universe. So, no pressure or anything.
Reeves said in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the movie’s plot will involve Bill and Ted somehow roping their kids into their timey-wimey exploits. “I’m sure [their kids] can’t help but have a bit of their mothers and fathers in them. So we’ll see how that expresses itself,” Reeves said.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure made a lasting impact on pop-culture in 1989, helping Reeves and Winter become breakout stars thanks to their likable and comical portrayal of two slacker teens from San Dimas. The last time the duo headlined their own movie was the 1991 cult-favorite sequel, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, which featured the two getting into a hilarious conflict with Death (William Sadler). The Bill & Ted movies also spawned a Saturday morning animated series on CBS.
Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, the writers of Excellent Adventure, penned the screenplay for Face the Music. Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) is directing. And, most surprising and interesting, is that Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh is an executive producer on the project.
