This weekend, the next big horror movie arrives in theaters. The Invitation stars Game of Thrones and Fast & Furious star Nathalie Emmanuel as Evie, a young woman who becomes an orphan when her mother dies and she’s left with no known relatives. After a DNA test connects her with long-lost relatives, Evie is elated to find a family she never knew she had. When her newfound relatives invite her to an estate in the English countryside for a glamorous wedding, Evie gladly accepts. However, Evie soon discovers that her distant family has a twisted, horrifying secret, and that their invitation comes with deadly strings attached.

Barbarian – Release Date: Friday, September 9

The fall movie season officially kicks off with Barbarian. Georgina Campbell stars as Tess, a young woman who travels to Detroit for a much-needed job interview. She books an Airbnb rental for her stay but when she arrives late one night, she discovers that it’s been double-booked and she has to share her rental with a strange man (Bill Skarsgård). Tired and not wanting to find another place, Tess decides to stay the night, against her better judgment. But she soon finds that a weird roommate is the least of the things she has to fear.

Don’t Worry Darling – Release Date: Friday, September 23

This September, Olivia Wilde returns with her sophomore directorial effort Don’t Worry Darling. Florence Pugh and Harry Styles star as Alice and Jack, a young, married couple in the 1950s. He talks her into moving to an experimental utopian community his company is developing, and at first, it seems idyllic: beautiful neighbors, flowing cocktails, and perfectly manicured lawns. But soon, Alice starts to realize that things are not what they seem in their seemingly perfect community and that the development hides dark secrets–and it won’t let them escape.

Dark Harvest – Release Date: Friday, September 23

Norman Partridge’s Bram Stoker Award-winning novel is finally getting the adaptation treatment. Dark Harvest tells the story of one small Midwestern town’s recurring nightmare. A monster called October Boy rises every Halloween from the cornfields around the two, armed with a butcher knife and a bloody intent to kill whatever unsuspecting straggler he comes across. Those who are brave enough to confront him die a gruesome death, while the rest hide and lock their doors. However, whichever young man finally succeeds in killing October Boy will be allowed to leave the town and his family gets a new home, car, and all their bills paid. However, the town hides a secret even darker than the October Boy himself…

Smile – Release Date: Friday, September 30

This might well be the creepiest horror movie of the year. Smile follows Dr. Rose Cotter, who has a great life and career until a strange, traumatic incident with an unstable patient upends her peace of mind. Soon after that unsettling encounter, Rose starts to experience bizarre and scary occurrences that she can’t explain. As her own brilliant mind turns on her and she becomes overwhelmed with terror, Rose must confront her past to escape her horrifying new reality.

Halloween Ends – Release Date: Friday, October 14

The thrilling conclusion to David Gordon Green’s trilogy that reinvigorated the Halloween franchise is here. Halloween Ends finds Michael Myers squaring off against generations of Strode women once and for all. Four years after the events of Halloween Kills, Laurie Strode is living quietly with her granddaughter Allyson and writing a memoir about her experiences. Michael hasn’t been spotted in years, and all seems well. But when a neighborhood teen is accused of murdering a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a chain reaction of events that will find Laurie having to face the monster who has plagued her entire life–and defeat him once and for all or die trying.

Prey for the Devil – Release Date: Friday, October 28

Those who love theological horror are in for a treat with Prey for the Devil, releasing just in time for Halloween. After a global rise in demonic possessions, the Catholic Church opens a school to train a new army of priests in the Rite of Exorcism in a battle for the soul of humanity. However, it’s limited to male priests only, as nuns are forbidden from performing exorcisms. However, when the young nun Sister Ann shows a prodigious talent for exorcising demons, a professor agrees to train her in secret. Sister Ann soon finds herself in the battle for the soul of a young girl, but she quickly realizes the malevolent entity is more dangerous than she ever thought possible. Soon, Sister Ann is in danger of losing her own soul to Satan.
