Abrams&#8217; final Star Wars movie will also mark the late Carrie Fisher&#8217;s last appearance as Princess Leia. (Abrams is using footage of Fisher shot for\u00a0<em>The Force Awakens<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/how-star-wars-episode-ix-plans-to-use-carrie-fisher\/\">along with unearthed footage pre-dating that<\/a>, footage that no one has seen before.)<\/p>\n<p>One of Fisher&#8217;s scenes was featured prominently in\u00a0<em>Rise of Skywalker<\/em>&#8216;s first teaser trailer, where Leia and Rey (Daisy Ridley) share an embrace. While promoting her new movie,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/ophelia\/263835\"><em>Ophelia<\/em><\/a>, Ridley revealed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/2019\/06\/daisy-ridley-interview-ophelia-star-wars-and-more.html\">Vulture<\/a>\u00a0what Fisher whispered to her while shooting that moment \u2013 and it&#8217;s not what you may expect:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was actually whispering, \u2018This is a f**king long hug.\u2019 [Laughs.],&#8221; Ridley recalled. &#8220;I was trying to do my acting, like, \u2018Oh my god, Carrie!\u2019 There wasn\u2019t any discussion about what we were gonna do.\u201d Watch the hug below:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fuJoH6FdyLM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Fisher&#8217;s wit (and use of profanity) is well known among fans and colleagues, so choosing not to play it straight during this tender moment isn&#8217;t surprising. It&#8217;s also not surprising that watching the brief scene proved to be quite emotional for Fisher&#8217;s costar.<\/p>\n<p>The scene makes Ridley &#8220;incredibly sad,&#8221; especially given how it plays out in the grander scheme of the movie, which will feature Fisher essentially &#8220;brought back to life&#8221; on the silver screen in a way that &#8220;resonates so much&#8221; with\u00a0<em>The Rise of Skywalker<\/em> storyline. Reportedly, <em>Episode IX<\/em> will heavily reference themes and events (think\u00a0<em>Return of the Jedi<\/em>&#8216;s final moments) that were critical to the completion of Luke&#8217;s arc and are critical to Rey completing hers.<\/p>\n<p>While Luke Skywalker is officially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker-mark-hamill-interview\/\">coming back as a Force Ghost<\/a>, here&#8217;s hoping <em>Rise of Skywalker<\/em> gives Leia and her brother one last family reunion in that galaxy far, far away.<\/p>\n<p><em>Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker<\/em> opens December 20.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is going to tug on fans&#8217; heartstrings.
