Lars Klevberg Discusses One &#8216;Child&#8217;s Play&#8217; Remake Kill He Couldn&#8217;t Legally Include<\/h2>\n<p>Apparently, according to Bloody Disgusting, the rights issues and legality of this summer&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/childs-play\/283503\"><em>Child&#8217;s Play<\/em><\/a> remake caused alterations to the script. One such instance involves how Andy&#8217;s stepfather, played by\u00a0David Lewis, and his already gruesome death. Apparently, it was a lot more gruesome? This is probably a good move, since STX completely forgot to market <em>Brahms: The Boy II<\/em>. Until the release change was announced, I&#8217;d completely forgotten William Brent Bell&#8217;s sequel was even a thing. Time to forget again until December!<\/p>\n<h2>5. &#8216;The Trench&#8217; Spinoff Will Be A Monster Movie First, Superhero Movie Second<\/h2>\n<p>For horror fans, the highlight of James Wan&#8217;s <em>Aquaman<\/em> origin occurs in the darkest oceanic reaches. Hordes of piranha-humanoid monsters attack Arthur and Mera, chasing them through Lovecraftian, cavernous depths known as &#8220;The Trench.&#8221; Not long after Aquaman&#8217;s successful opening, Wan confirmed <em>The Trench<\/em> would be a horror-focused <em>Aquaman<\/em> spinoff staying in this same nightmare world. Talking to <a href=\"https:\/\/comicbook.com\/dc\/2019\/06\/21\/james-wan-aquaman-trench-spinoff-movie-details\/\">ComicBook.com<\/a>, Wan confirmed you can expect the monster movie you&#8217;re all wanting:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe\u2019re still deep in sort of crafting the script, crafting the story right now so I don\u2019t want to get into that too much. Yes, it&#8217;s Christmas horror-themed. Yes, I&#8217;m going to keep reporting on it because Christmas horror is celebrated vigorously around these parts. Check out the rad poster for Sam Wineman&#8217;s &#8220;Milk And Cookies&#8221; segment, about &#8220;a boy [who] leaves a note out for Santa asking him to fix a toy pony his father broke. When his wishes begin to come true, they become increasingly darker.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>7. &#8216;The Purge&#8217; Season Two Adds Four New Cast Members<\/h2>\n<p>James DeMonaco is currently working on his latest Purge film, set to release in July 2020, but at the same time, USA Network continues to forge forward with a new season of their <em>The Purge<\/em> television series. Glenn Danzig&#8217;s &#8216;Verotika&#8217; Set For Halloween VOD Release, Teases Next Film<\/h2>\n<p>Those of you lucky enough to catch the beautiful disaster of Glenn Danzig&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/verotika\/294919\"><em>Verotika<\/em><\/a> premiere at Cinepocalypse Film Festival, I am envious. Part of me thought the &#8220;so audaciously bad it&#8217;s transcendent&#8221; film would never see the light of day given how immediate reactions called <em>Verotika<\/em> the next <em>The Room<\/em>, but news now confirms\u00a0Cleopatra Entertainment will grant the film a VOD release just in time for\u00a0Halloween. In addition, there will be Fathom screenings in New York, San Francisco, Austin, and other markets. Then the film is expected to be available on DVD and Blu-ray by the end of the year. Praise be the cult cinema gods.<\/p>\n<p>In other news, Danzig&#8217;s already plugging away at promoting his next movie. Apparently, it&#8217;s a vampire spaghetti western? It&#8217;s confirmed that <a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/ghostbusters-2020-paul-rudd\/\">Paul Rudd has officially joined the cast<\/a> in an undisclosed &#8220;strapping male&#8221; character. Early reports indicate his role may be that of a teacher? SYFY To Ride &#8216;Zombie Tidal Wave&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s being reported that SYFY is developing what the network hopes to be their next <em>Sharknado<\/em>, titled <em>Zombie Tidal Wave<\/em>.\u00a0Ian Ziering will star in and produce the film, with <em>Sharknado<\/em> director\u00a0Anthony C. Ferrante returning as well. Ziering stars as Hunter Shaw, a \u201crogue, veteran sailor\u201d who \u201ccontends with the ocean-borne outbreak which threatens his seaside island community.\u201d The film splashes down\u00a0Aug. 17th and\u00a018th. Unless, that is, we\u2019re to believe Warner Brothers noticed all the post-axing fan protest and is now developing a Swamp Thing film? Consider this a rumor, but rumblings have leaked possible Swamp Thing movie plans with a totally different cast and creative team from the show. It wouldn\u2019t be the worst idea since my reaction out of Overlook Film Festival, where the first two Swamp Thing episodes played, left me *loving* the horror elements that were being dragged down by procedural boredom. Cut a leaner, meaner Swamp Thing movie highlighting those elements? All massacre, no motivation. Looks like I\u2019m alone in my opinion, since director Damien Leone\u2019s sequel has crowdfunded over 200% of the initial goal ask. As a token of appreciation, Leone confirmed Art the Clown\u2019s second slashening will up the deaths, carnage, and gross-out factor:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout beating around the bush, I wrote an EPIC scene in the screenplay for <em>Terrifier 2<\/em> that we currently do not have enough money to shoot. Without spoiling all the juicy, gory details, the scene will involve mass casualties and the destruction of its location, BUT it is the context of the scene that truly makes it so original. We\u2019re aiming to create a scene so shocking and iconic that people will talk about it for years to come. Imagine if Art the Clown was in charge of the prom mayhem in Carrie\u2026meets David Lynch\u2026meets Maniac\u2026.just sayin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not my cup of tea, but practical effects lovers should give Terrifier a gander. She\u2019ll play Santa Muerte, the Angel of Holy Death and sister of the charismatic demoness, Magda (Natalie Dormer). One of his newest announced projects is an adaptation of Stephen King\u2019s <em>Salem\u2019s Lot<\/em>, which could thrust him into horror\u2019s inner sanctum depending on success. Dauberman\u2019s excited about the challenge, saying this about making vampires scary again:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019m very, very excited to be a part of that and tackle it. It hasn\u2019t had the big screen treatment yet, which is how I felt about It. It\u2019s so fun to play around with vampires and make something truly scary with vampires. Sam Wineman has been asked to write and direct, said to \u201cexplore the complex, fascinating history of queer horror on film, through the works of pioneering queer creators like James Whale and Clive Barker.\u201d Producers include Phil Nobile Jr. (Fangoria), Kelly Ryan (Stage 3) and Michael Varrati (Dead for Filth).
