{"id":8445,"date":"2019-06-17T11:17:33","date_gmt":"2019-06-17T18:17:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog-proxy.atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/?p=8445"},"modified":"2019-06-18T11:57:09","modified_gmt":"2019-06-18T18:57:09","slug":"hunger-games-prequel-movie-in-the-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/hunger-games-prequel-movie\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Hunger Games&#8217; Prequel Movie In The Works"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Phantom Menace<\/em> of\u00a0<em>Hunger Games<\/em> movies is on the way.<\/p>\n<p>As publisher Scholastic announced Monday that author Suzanne Collins&#8217; <em>Hunger Games<\/em> prequel book is set for release May 19, 2020, Lionsgate also revealed their plans to make a movie based on the book.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the proud home of\u00a0the <em>Hunger Games<\/em>\u00a0movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne\u2019s next book to be published,&#8221; announced Joe Drake, Chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. &#8220;We\u2019ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The prequel takes place 64 years before Katniss Everdeen&#8217;s story, as it will chronicle the world of Panem starting on the morning of the Reaping during the tenth Hunger Games.<\/p>\n<p>Lionsgate has flirted with doing a\u00a0<em>Hunger Games\u00a0<\/em>prequel for years &#8212; one with significantly more arena-based action &#8212; ever since they released the final chapter in Katniss&#8217; story,\u00a0<em>The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part II\u00a0<\/em>in 2015. With Jennifer Lawrence&#8217;s final film in the franchise, Lionsgate took a page from\u00a0<em>Harry Potter<\/em>&#8216;s playbook and split the last story into two parts &#8212; with the entire film series netting almost $3 billion at the box office in the process. Now, it seems they are trying to go the\u00a0<em>Fantastic Beasts<\/em> route with a prequel series that involves events and characters other than those fans of both the original books and films care about.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s hoping this prequel experience fares better commercially and artistically than the\u00a0<em>Fantastic Beasts<\/em> prequels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Phantom Menace of\u00a0Hunger Games movies is on the way.
