The Walking Dead<\/em>‘s Robert Kirkman is trying to bring his latest comic to a theater near you.<\/p>\n

Oblivion Song<\/em>, Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici’s compelling sci-fi comic book, is in development by Skybound Entertainment and Universal Pictures, Deadline<\/a> reported Tuesday. The adaptation will be scripted by Sean O\u2019Keefe, the screenwriter behind Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg’s upcoming movie, Wonderland.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Oblivion Song<\/em>, published by Skybound and Image Comics in March 2018, has a very big-screen friendly concept that takes place ten years after 300,000 people in Philadelphia were mysteriously trapped in Oblivion. The government began desperate recovery efforts in earnest but, after the first few years resulted in zero rescues, the search was aborted. But Nathan Cole refused to give up. The movie will reportedly center on Cole’s life-risking efforts to save those that were lost — all while exploring why he really can’t resist “the siren call of Oblivion’s Song.”<\/p>\n

The early success of the comic surprised its creators and publishers, and fan interest in the title made it only a matter of time before a movie based on the property was put into development. The news of a feature film version of\u00a0Oblivion Song<\/em>\u00a0comes on the heels of Kirkman [SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU ARE NOT CAUGHT UP WITH TWD <\/em>COMIC]\u00a0<\/strong>recently killing off his\u00a0Walking Dead<\/em> hero, Rick Grimes, in the monthly comic.<\/p>\n

Image’s\u00a0Walking Dead<\/em> hits its 200th issue next year.<\/p>\n

In addition to being the co-creator of\u00a0Oblivion<\/em>, Kirkman will also produced the feature film.
