The\u00a0Avengers: Endgame<\/em><\/a> star revealed to Variety<\/a> Tuesday why he passed on the long-delayed\u00a0Star Trek 4<\/em> from producer J.J. Abrams. The sequel would have seen Hemsworth’s George Kirk — who sacrificed himself in Abrams’ 2009\u00a0Star Trek\u00a0<\/em>— return to save the galaxy with his son, James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), in what presumably would have been the final outing for this version of the Enterprise crew. So why did the actor say “no?”<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t feel like we landed on a reason to revisit that yet,\u201d Hemsworth explained. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to be underwhelmed by what I was going to bring to the table.\u201d<\/p>\n The script in question at the time was from\u00a0Star Trek Beyond<\/em>‘s original writers,\u00a0J.D. Payne\u00a0and\u00a0Patrick McKay. In August 2018, it was reported<\/a> that salary negotiations between Paramount and Hemsworth and Pine broke down over budget — the studio deemed the actors’ fees were too high and didn’t want to pay. This is despite Paramount making the inspired and progressive choice to hire\u00a0Jessica Jones<\/em> helmer\u00a0S.J. Clarkson to direct\u00a0Trek 4<\/em>, making Clarkson the first woman to ever direct one of the franchise’s movies.<\/p>\n
