According to a new report, the animation studio plans to go back to their roots and double-down on making original content (yay!).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/behind-screen\/toy-story-4-rashida-jones-john-lasseter-8-who-will-share-story-by-credits-1209677\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">THR<\/a>\u00a0had a recent story about the future of Pixar and touched on life at the studio after the dismissal of its co-founder, John Lasseter, due to sexual misconduct accusations.\u00a0With Lasseter gone, and new boss Pete Docter <em>(Inside<\/em> Out) now in charge, the report says that after\u00a0<em>Toy Story 4<\/em>&#8216;s release, Pixar will focus primarily on new, original projects instead of filling their slate with sequels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Docter]\u2019s really looking out for the new voices and really loading up the development pool,\u201d Producer\u00a0Mark Nielsen\u00a0said. \u201cIt\u2019s all original films after this one right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lasseter was the driving force behind the <em>Cars <\/em>franchise, his passion project and a blatant cash grab\/Disney merch play that lead to two sequels of diminishing returns (critically, creatively, and financially). Many fans and industry experts point to\u00a0<em>Cars 2<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Cars 3<\/em> as low points for the studio and prime examples of Pixar putting sequels over original ideas. With Docter\u00a0now steering\u00a0and righting the ship, Pixar looks to course correct with the types of films that made audiences fall in love with the animation giant in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>Kicking off this new original content initiative will be Pixar&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Onward<\/em>, from\u00a0<em>Monsters University\u00a0<\/em>director Dan Scanlon.
