His last was 2014&#8217;s\u00a0<em>The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies<\/em>. But fans could have seen his return to the land of big-budget adaptations in 2018 &#8212; if he hadn&#8217;t turned it down. Twice.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson revealed in an interview Wednesday with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.empireonline.com\/movies\/news\/peter-jackson-turned-aquaman-twice\/\">Empire<\/a> that Warner Bros. offered him a chance to direct &#8212; wait for it &#8212;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/aquaman\/197405\"><em>Aquaman<\/em><\/a>. The New Zealand filmmaker was approached by former Warner Bros. CEO\u00a0Kevin Tsujihara to bring Jason Mamoa&#8217;s Arthur Curry solo movie to life, more than once.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said, \u2018Are you a fan of\u00a0<em>Aquaman<\/em>?\u2019 I said, \u2018No,'&#8221; Jackson recalled. &#8220;Six months later: \u2018Peter, are you a fan of\u00a0<em>Aquaman<\/em>?\u2019 I said, \u2018No, Kevin, I already told you this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Having scratched this itch before with <em>The Lord of the Rings<\/em> and <em>Hobbit\u00a0<\/em>trilogies, and 2005&#8217;s\u00a0<em>King Kong<\/em>, Jackson seems content, for now, to make smaller passion projects, like his 2018 WWI documentary,\u00a0<em>They Shall Not Grow Old<\/em>. And besides, comic book movies just aren&#8217;t his bag.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not a superhero guy,&#8221; Jackson told Empire. &#8220;I read\u00a0<em>Tintin<\/em>\u2026 Look, films are hard. I only want to make something that I have a deep passion for. I don\u2019t really anticipate making another theatrical film for a year or two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So guess that means we can safely rule out\u00a0<em>Aquaman 2: The Legend of Curly&#8217;s Gold<\/em> as being Jackson&#8217;s next project.<\/p>\n<p>The man who did direct the billon-dollar grossing\u00a0<em>Aquaman<\/em>, James Wan, has yet to announce if he will return to the director&#8217;s chair for the much-anticipated sequel.
