The biggest lead in the case? Pikachu (Reynolds), who breaks into Tim\u2019s apartment one night trying to look for more clues about Harry\u2019s disappearance since he\u2019s already working the case. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two eventually team up and as they get closer to learning the truth, they quickly learn that the circumstance of Harry up and vanishing is more complex than they could have ever known. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What Are Pok\u00e9mon?<\/h2>\n<div style=\"width: 1090px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog-proxy.atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/pikachu-review.jpg\" width=\"1080\" height=\"675\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Credit: WB)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The term \u201cPok\u00e9mon\u201d is a hybrid of the name of a Japanese brand \u201cPocket Monsters.\u201d The franchise began in the form of Nintendo video games in 1997, quickly expanding to trading cards, animated movies, an animated TV series of the same name, and &#8212; in more recent years &#8212; gaming apps for your phone. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some Pok\u00e9mon are styled to look similar to animals we know or animals from commonly known myths (e.g. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pokemon.fandom.com\/wiki\/Pikachu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pikachu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> looks like a mouse, but with a lightning bolt tail to represent its most unique ability, creating lightning; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pokemon.fandom.com\/wiki\/Charizard\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charizard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> looks and acts like a fire-breathing dragon; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pokemon.fandom.com\/wiki\/Psyduck\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Psyduck<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> looks like a big ol\u2019 platypus\/duck hybrid) while others have completely unique and unfamiliar looks (think of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pokemon.fandom.com\/wiki\/Jigglypuff\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jigglypuff<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pokemon.fandom.com\/wiki\/Mewtwo\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mewtwo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pokemon.fandom.com\/wiki\/Bulbasaur\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bulbasaur<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Where Is The Pok\u00e9mon World Set?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the Pok\u00e9mon canon (basically everything that\u2019s come before <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detective Pikachu<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), the setting is an Earth-like planet called <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pokemon.fandom.com\/wiki\/Pok%C3%A9mon_World\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pokemon World<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. As seen in the movies, with the exception of the existence of Pok\u00e9mon and everything having to do with them, this world is pretty familiar. Sure, the known regions have been given oddball names like Unova,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn, but much of the food, transportation, and pop culture feels similar enough to our world that it remains universally accessible and inviting. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detective Pikachu<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is set in Ryme City, a location uniquely created for and first seen in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detective Pikachu <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">video game. The trailers for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detective Pikachu<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> show a city very similar to our own. Things like a police force, cars, parades, apartment buildings, outdoor markets, cell phones, and pop songs like The Turtles\u2019 \u201cHappy Together\u201d exist there. Ryme City is described as a city built to symbolize the harmony between humans and Pok\u00e9mon, so expect to see the seamless integration of Pok\u00e9mon and humans in the busy city with the presence of Pok\u00e9mon very much normalized. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>How Many Pok\u00e9mon Are There?<\/h2>\n<div style=\"width: 1090px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog-proxy.atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/HowManyPokemon.jpg\" width=\"1080\" height=\"675\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Credit: WB)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, that\u2019s the million dollar question. To put it mildly, there are <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tons <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Pok\u00e9mon that exist nowadays and that includes each Pok\u00e9mon\u2019s individual evolution progression (known as \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pokemon.fandom.com\/wiki\/Generation_I\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Generations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d in Poke-speak). And (and!) there are new Pok\u00e9mon still being created to this day and popping up in games like the popular gaming app <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pok\u00e9mon Go.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The current Pok\u00e9mon count stands at 807.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the most popular and common Pok\u00e9mon are Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander. In the video games and gaming apps, your first choice is often choosing which of these starter Pok\u00e9mon to begin your journey with you. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What Is A Trainer?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Pok\u00e9mon Trainer is someone who is skilled at catching Pok\u00e9mon in a Pokeball, identifying it, knowing how to train and evolve it, and use it in a battle. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trainers and their Pok\u00e9mon form deep and lasting bonds, creating a sense of trust and harmony that will allow them, as a team, to succeed in whatever comes their way. If you\u2019ve played any kind of Pok\u00e9mon<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">game in the last 20-plus years, especially <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pok\u00e9mon Go<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, then you\u2019ll probably know how much fun it is to catch, collect, and battle with Pok\u00e9mon. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bond between Trainer and Pok\u00e9mon is showcased in all of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detective Pikachu <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trailers and stills, especially in regard to Tim and Pikachu\u2019s bond. Hopefully, we\u2019ll also get a better look at the fun relationship between Tim and Pikachu\u2019s partners-in-crime, Lucy and Psyduck. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Tell Me More About Pok\u00e9mon Battles<\/h2>\n<div style=\"width: 508px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog-proxy.atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/PokemonBattles.gif\" width=\"498\" height=\"206\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Credit: WB)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These battles are a key feature and fan-favorite of the Pok\u00e9mon world. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Battles have been worked into every film, cartoon, card game, and video game in the Pok\u00e9mon franchise. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Essentially, Trainers bring their best Pok\u00e9mon and unleash their Pok\u00e9mon on one another to see who will win a battle. Card and video game players know that, as Trainers, you have to be keenly aware of your Pok\u00e9mon&#8217;s abilities and how to best use them during a battle to ensure a win; it\u2019s essential to study up on how your Pok\u00e9mon works!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detective Pikachu <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has already hinted that at least a few battles between Pok\u00e9mon will happen in and out of the traditional Pok\u00e9mon battle ring. One particularly memorable scene in the trailer shows Pikachu going from confident to flustered as he prepares to battle a Charizard with Tim trying to go into Trainer-mode by trying to get Pika focused ASAP. Fingers crossed the tiniest detective in Ryme City can beat Charizard before it\u2019s too late&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Who Are The Villains In The Pok\u00e9mon World?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The world of Pok\u00e9mon has some pretty infamous baddies in its canon. The original villains were known as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/villains.fandom.com\/wiki\/Team_Rocket\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Team Rocket<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and comprised of trainers Jessie, James, and their leader, Giovanni. Giovanni was a particularly ominous Big Bad and the recurring antagonist in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pok\u00e9mon Red<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blue<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yellow <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">video games. (All three members would pop up in the cartoons, too.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jessie and James were the most front-facing villains of Pok\u00e9mon cartoons and movies. They were always trying to bring everyone\u2019s fave trainers &#8212; Ash, Misty, and Brock &#8212; down in the earliest Pok\u00e9mon cartoons and movies. Another villain, albeit a misunderstood one, is the Pok\u00e9mon Mewtwo, a psychic mutant who was created to take down other Pok\u00e9mon. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detective Pikachu<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will possibly introduce new villains into the world of Pok\u00e9mon rather than include ones that are already canon, but Mewtwo has been teased in the film\u2019s trailers so we can count on at least one canon baddie making an appearance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>How Does All Of This Figure Into The Movie?<\/h2>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detective Pikachu<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will feature many of the familiar Pok\u00e9mon you know and love, in situations you\u2019d likely see in previous movies, cartoons, and video games but the story and (some of) the main human characters are entirely new. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That said, expect this film to be rich with Pok\u00e9mon Easter eggs that will keep fans hooked during the film\u2019s 104-minute runtime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Get your tickets for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pokemon Detective Pikachu<\/span><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/pokemon-detective-pikachu\/263686?ref=pikachu_oo\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It feels like everyone is at peak excitement for\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Detective Pikachu, which hits theaters May 10.
