{"id":7103,"date":"2019-05-07T18:01:52","date_gmt":"2019-05-07T18:01:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog-proxy.atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/?p=7103"},"modified":"2019-05-07T18:01:52","modified_gmt":"2019-05-07T18:01:52","slug":"chadwick-boseman-to-star-as-first-african-samurai-in-yasuke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/chadwick-boseman-first-african-samurai-movie-yasuke\/","title":{"rendered":"Chadwick Boseman To Star As First African Samurai In &#8216;Yasuke&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A historical epic about the first African samurai has just cast an Avenger.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/avengers-endgame\/284981\"><em>Avengers: Endgame <\/em><\/a>and\u00a0<em>Black Panther<\/em> star\u00a0Chadwick Boseman\u00a0has signed on as the lead in <em>Yasuke<\/em>, a movie about the first African samurai ever to set foot on Japanese soil.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2019\/05\/chadwick-boseman-yasuke-african-samurai-black-panther-1202608769\/\">Deadline<\/a> has the casting exclusive.<\/p>\n<p>This Yasuke movie is different from the one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/mgm-yasuke-african-samurai-movie\/\">announced a few weeks ago<\/a> that MGM is developing.\u00a0Producer Mike De Luca (under his De Luca Productions banner) is busy ramping this competing movie up for production and the real-life story behind it promises to be one of the most must-see films to come out of Hollywood in some time.<\/p>\n<p>Yasuke was a Portuguese Mozambique native who was taken to Japan as a slave by Jesuit missionaries. The first black man to enter Japan, his arrival caught the attention of Nobunaga, a vicious warlord. At the time, Nobunaga struggled to unite his splintered country under his banner. Through this struggle, Yasuke and Nobunaga forged a complicated friendship that soon earned Yasuke the honor of being a samurai.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe legend of Yasuke is one of history\u2019s best-kept secrets, the only person of non-Asian origin to become a Samurai,\u201d Boseman said in a statement. \u201cThat\u2019s not just an action movie, that\u2019s a cultural event, an exchange, and I am excited to be part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The script is being written by\u00a0<em>Narcos<\/em> co-creator Doug Miro.<\/p>\n<p>Boseman can next be seen in the action thriller\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/21-bridges\/278478\"><em>21 Bridges<\/em><\/a>, in theaters July 12.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A historical epic about the first African samurai has just cast an Avenger.
