If you\u2019ve seen <\/span>Avengers: Endgame<\/span><\/i><\/a>, then you know that it marks the end of Iron Man\u2019s Marvel adventures. What you didn\u2019t see was how that journey was originally going to end, which involved a special appearance from someone very important to Tony Stark.<\/span><\/p>\n

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo\u2019s next stop on their \u201cThe Making of <\/span>Endgame<\/span><\/i>\u201d press tour took them to the <\/span>Happy Sad Confused<\/span><\/i><\/a> podcast, where they explained why they cut a scene that would have brought <\/span>13 Reasons Why<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Love, Simon<\/span><\/i> actor <\/span>Katherine Langford into the MCU. Langford was cast as the teenage version of Morgan, Tony\u2019s daughter, played by Lexi Rabe in <\/span>Endgame<\/span><\/i>. The older Morgan would have appeared to Tony after he snaps his fingers and dusted Thanos.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere was an idea that we had that Tony was going to go into the metaphysical way station that Thanos goes in when he snapped his fingers [in <\/span>Infinity War<\/span><\/i>],\u201d Joe Russo said. \u201cAnd that there was going to be a future version of his daughter in that way station.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

So why was the scene cut? <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we realized about it was we didn\u2019t feel an emotional association with the adult version of [Tony\u2019s] daughter,\u201d Anthony Russo said. \u201cSo, it wasn\u2019t ringing to us and resonating with us on an emotional level.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe Russo elaborated further: \u201cThe intention was that [Tony\u2019s] future daughter, because these films are dealing with magic, his future daughter forgave him and sort of gave him peace to go. And the idea felt resonant. But it was just too many ideas in an overly complicated movie.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

An older version of Tony\u2019s daughter helping a dying Tony shed this mortal coil would have undercut the emotional impact of that great \u201cI love you 3000\u201d scene Tony\u2019s final holographic message to a young Morgan has. While we are glad this bit was cut, we\u2019re hoping it makes an appearance on the Blu-ray\u2019s collection of deleted scenes. <\/span><\/p>\n
