The latest blockbuster to need them: Robert Downey, Jr.&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/the-voyage-of-doctor-dolittle\/248984\"><em>The Voyage of Dr. Dolittle<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Universal&#8217;s pricey live-action\/CG hybrid movie, which stars Downey Jr. as the eccentric doctor who can speak to animals, recently wrapped extensive reshoots overseen by Jonathan Liebesman <em>(Teenage Mutant Ninja<\/em> Turtles), according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/heat-vision\/ninja-turtles-director-tackling-doctor-dolittle-reshoots-1201707\"><em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0<em>Dolittle<\/em>&#8216;s original director,\u00a0Stephen Gaghan &#8212; who won an Oscar for his <em>Traffic\u00a0<\/em>screenplay &#8212; was reportedly on set and worked with\u00a0Liebesman. Gaghan will remain the credited director.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not surprising that the film underwent a 21-day reshoot, seeing as how Gaghan has never tackled a movie of this scope before. (<em>Dolittle<\/em>&#8216;s budget is reportedly in the $175 million range.) The film found itself on this path after\u00a0<em>Lego Batman Movie<\/em> helmer Chris McKay boarded the project to help overhaul it last fall at the behest of Universal and producers\u00a0Susan Downey, Joe Roth, and Jeff Kirschenbaum. McKay was unable to oversee the reshoots himself, so he recommended the\u00a0<em>TMNT<\/em> director for the gig.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The film features Dolittle interacting with numerous speaking animals, the latter being brought to life via computer-generated visual effects. Sources say that Gaghan\u2019s cut didn\u2019t catch those hybrid elements,&#8221; according to\u00a0<em>THR<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The studio recently pushed the film&#8217;s release date from April 2019 to accommodate the extra time needed for the reshoots and post-production.
