Also expected to return are Zachary Levi, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/shazam-director-david-f-sandberg-interview\/\">director David F. Sandberg<\/a>, and producer Peter Safran.<\/p>\n<p><em>Shazam!<\/em> used its final scenes to set up plenty of options for a next installment to follow, everything from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/shazam-superman-cameo\/\">surprise cameos<\/a> to that end-credits tease featuring a certain evil caterpillar. The Rock himself, Dwayne Johnson, is also set to star as Black Adam &#8212; Shazam&#8217;s nemesis &#8212; in his own solo film, which Johnson says will start shooting in about a year.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a safe bet Black Adam and Shazam will eventually duke it out in a movie, but maybe not in the upcoming\u00a0<em>Shazam!\u00a0<\/em>sequel. Johnson recently explained on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tv\/Bv93mu6BlNq\/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet\">Instagram<\/a> that Adam has enough of an origin story to warrant his own solo film.<\/p>\n<p>What a time to be alive for comic book fans: It wasn&#8217;t long ago when a\u00a0<em>Shazam!<\/em> movie was stuck in development hell for years. Now, we&#8217;re getting a sequel seemingly fast-tracked. Judging by the impressive opening weekend at the box office and the &#8220;A&#8221; grade CinemaScore from audiences, fans can&#8217;t get enough of more adventures with Billy Batson and his superhero alter ego.<\/p>\n<p>No release date for\u00a0<em>Shazam 2<\/em> has been announced yet, but we&#8217;ll keep you posted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, that was quick.
