This week, there\u2019s a new superhero in town, and he\u2019s flying relatively high over the competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Week\u2019s Top Earner \u2013 &#8216;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shazam!&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/b5vwzxHOzmM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were a lot of new releases this week, but the latest DC and Warner Bros. superhero film unsurprisingly bolted ahead of the pack with a domestic take of $53.4 million, not including early Fandango screening events. Compared to other comic book movies, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shazam! <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">performed a little better than <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Lantern<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wolverine<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lego Batman Movie<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. And it performed slightly below <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fantastic Four <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2005), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Incredible Hulk<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Watchmen<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X-Men: First Class<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the first <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X-Men<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So in regards to other new film franchises starring men in tights, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shazam! <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is on pretty solid footing, and worldwide it\u2019s already amassed an impressive total of $158.7 million off of a reported $100 million budget. It\u2019s easy to assume the super-comedy will make more than enough to bolster itself before <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avengers: Endgame <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dominates the box office at the end of April.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Second Place \u2013 &#8216;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pet Sematary&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0_FBFrxJNik?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As expected, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pet Sematary <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">easily secured the #2 spot for Paramount after its debut in over 3,500 theaters. The horror remake of yet another Stephen King adaptation collected $25 million domestically, surpassing its reported budget of $21 million with a worldwide total of $42.3 million. This is about on par with other horror remakes such as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Evil Dead <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2013), but well below the big record breakers like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2017). Regardless, we can almost certainly expect a remake of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pet Sematary Two <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to be brought back to life sometime soon. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And Third \u00a0\u2013 &#8216;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dumbo&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/njHnNcqWobc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disney\u2019s latest live-action remake had its wings clipped to #3 after riding high last weekend, making just $18.2 million domestically in over 4,200 theaters. That\u2019s a 60.4% drop, which means the family film will likely lose some theater placement to next week\u2019s debuts, which include <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Missing Link <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Little<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u00a0Worldwide, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dumbo <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has made $213.7 million off of a $170 million budget in just its second week, so it will most likely surpass <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alice Through the Looking Glass <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and perhaps <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">101 Dalmatians <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1996) in the coming weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rounding Out The Rest Of The Box Office<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Us <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Universal) lost a couple hundred theaters and dropped two spots to #4, making a still impressive $13.8 million in its third weekend. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captain Marvel <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Disney) similarly dropped two spots to #5 with $12.6 million after losing over 400 theaters, but considering it&#8217;s already crossed the billion-dollar threshold, not so much a worry for Disney.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Best of Enemies <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(STX Films) debuted at #6 with just $4.5 million in over 1,700 theaters. Clearly, audiences needed a break so soon after <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Book<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Five Feet Apart <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Lionsgate) dropped two spots to #7 with $3.7 million, still holding somewhat strong in over 2,400 theaters after a month at the box office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unplanned <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">didn\u2019t quite go as planned. The PureFlix drama fell four spots to #8 with just $3.2 million domestically, despite gaining nearly 500 theaters. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wonder Park <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Paramount) fell three spots to #9 with a sharp drop to $2 million domestically after losing over 1,000 theaters in its fourth week. Lastly, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has apparently reached the end of its flight after dropping three spots to #10 in its seventh week with just $1.9 million domestic. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And They&#8217;re Out<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hotel Mumbai <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Bleecker Street) fell out of the Top 10 in just its second week of wide release, making only $1.7 million in 930 theaters. After six weeks, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tyler Perry\u2019s A Madea Family Funeral <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Lionsgate) also dropped out despite still being in over 1,100 theaters.
