Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland will direct the movie, which aims to start shooting this June in London. In other casting news,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2019\/04\/david-harbour-disney-marvel-black-widow-movie-1202587737\/\">Deadline<\/a>\u00a0hears that Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz, last seen in\u00a0<em>The Favourite<\/em>, is someone Marvel is interested in for a role in the movie. As of press time, no official offer is in the works as the talks are very early days.<\/p>\n<p>Harbour&#8217;s character is (obviously) being kept under wraps, but we do know that Natasha Romanoff&#8217;s first solo outing will find the super spy on an international adventure. No word yet if the movie takes place before, after, or during her time with the Avengers.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YCxlEi50bS0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<em>Black Widow<\/em> movie has been in development for a few years now, and has emerged as a top priority for Marvel Studios as their slate heads into the next phase following the success of their first female-lead superhero movie, the billion-dollar grossing hit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/captain-marvel\/198440\"><em>Captain Marvel<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>While there has been some speculation that Widow&#8217;s first movie could find her on an R-rated mission, it&#8217;s highly doubtful that the Disney-owned company would put the character in a movie for the 17-and-older crowd. That doesn&#8217;t mean Black Widow will be watered down in a PG-13 story or can&#8217;t thrive in one. On the contrary, she has excelled and endeared herself to fans in nothing but PG-13 rated adventures in the MCU &#8212; especially with Johansson&#8217;s scene-stealing turn in 2014&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Captain America: The Winter Soldier<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>That sequel proved that there is no doubt Johansson and her iconic character deserve their own franchise, one that has been\u00a0<em>long<\/em> overdue.<\/p>\n<p>While Marvel has yet to announce an official release date, the rumor is that\u00a0<em>Black Widow<\/em> will land in theaters in May 2020 &#8212; just in time to help kick off the summer movie season.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re lining up for tickets already.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sheriff Jim Hopper is going from the Upside Down to Marvel.
