This week, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captain Marvel <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was finally dethroned by Jordan Peele\u2019s second feature film, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Us<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Week&#8217;s Top Earner \u2013 &#8216;Us&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expectations were sky-high for Universal\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/us\/272263\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Us<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Jordan Peele\u2019s follow-up to 2017\u2019s wildly successful <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Get Out<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the new horror film did not disappoint. It\u2019s now the second biggest live-action original feature to debut in the U.S. with $70.2 million. Worldwide, it\u2019s at $87.1 million off of a reported budget of $20 million. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Us <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is an instant hit, basically, and it looks like both fans and critics were lining up to see double this weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Second Place \u00a0\u2013 &#8216;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captain Marvel&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After two straight weeks on top, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/captain-marvel\/198440\">Captain Marvel<\/a> <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fell to #2, making $35 million domestically. It dropped 48% from last week, which is not as big a drop as the week before, interestingly. Carol Danvers is absolutely standing tall, of course, with a worldwide box office total of $921 million in its <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">third <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">week, which means it could hit a billion as soon as next weekend (it\u2019ll be the seventh Marvel Studios film to do so).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And Third \u00a0\u2013 &#8216;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wonder Park&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paramount\u2019s animated theme park adventure film held its lead over <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Five Feet Apart <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">just barely this weekend, collecting $9 million domestically in its second week. This is likely because the Nickelodeon movie is still playing in about 1,000 more theaters than the aforementioned teen romance flick. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/wonder-park\/222401\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wonder Park<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s worldwide totals have reached $39.6 million, still far below its reported budget of around $100 million (some estimates say it\u2019s possibly as low as $80 million). We\u2019ll have to wait and see if audiences are willing to keep paying the price of admission for this kids ride, but for now, it looks to garner a net loss for Paramount.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rounding Out The Rest Of The Box Office<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At #4, we have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/five-feet-apart\/273788\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Five Feet Apart<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gained 63 theaters and made about $8.7 million domestically, cementing its modest hit status for Lionsgate thanks to a low $7 million budget now eclipsed by $32.7 million worldwide after two weeks. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/how-to-train-your-dragon-the-hidden-world\/142144\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dropped one spot as well to #5, making just $6.5 million domestically despite playing in over 3,300 theaters. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/tyler-perrys-a-madea-family-funeral\/253216\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tyler Perry\u2019s A Madea Family Funeral <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dropped as well to #6 with $4.5 million domestically after a month at the box office. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As for #7, we have another newcomer to the Top 10. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/gloria-bell\/277815\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gloria Bell <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(A24) had an expanded release this week, finishing at $1.8 million domestic. Pantelion\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/no-manches-frida-2\/282428\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No Manches Frida 2 <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dropped two spots to #8 with $1.7 million domestically, despite only being in its second week. At #9 we have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/the-lego-movie-2-the-second-part\/209281\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lego Movie 2 <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Warner Bros), which is seriously winding down with $1.1 million in its seventh week. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And last we have Fox\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/alita-battle-angel\/233304\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alita: Battle Angel <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at #10, making just a little over $1 million after six weeks. Worldwide, the James Cameron-produced action sci-fi is getting close to finishing at around $400 million worldwide off of a reported budget of $170 million. Considering heavy marketing costs, the film is probably making either small profit gains or breaking even, and in light of the Disney-Fox merger, there\u2019s no telling if the studio will decide to keep this franchise alive.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And They&#8217;re Out<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only two films dropped off the Top 10 this week. First, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/captive-state\/250733\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captive State <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Focus Features) plummeted from #7 to #11 with just $918,000 domestic. This is despite playing in over 2,500 theaters. If you want to catch <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captive State <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">before it\u2019s out of theaters for good, right now may be your best shot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And after a long back-and-forth with the Top 10 thanks to Oscar season, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/green-book\/273307\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Book <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Universal) finally bowed out, dropping five spots to #15 with just $600,000.
