This week, Hollywood released a few new alternatives for audiences, but it wasn\u2019t enough to topple the biggest movie of the year so far.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Week&#8217;s Top Earner (For The Second Week In A Row) \u2013 &#8216;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captain Marvel&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The latest entry into the MCU dominated the box office once again this week, dropping just 54% for a domestic haul of $69 million. Worldwide, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/captain-marvel\/198440\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captain Marvel<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has made a staggering $762 million, already surpassing the entire run of similar Marvel standalone films like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iron Man<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captain America<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doctor Strange<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and plenty more. At this rate, barring a drastic third-weekend dropoff, it&#8217;s a near-certainty it will cross the billion dollar mark. Marvel has a new heavy hitter, and her name is Carol Danvers.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Second Place \u00a0\u2013 &#8216;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wonder Park&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paramount and Nickelodeon Movies rolled out the red carpet for their new animated family film <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/wonder-park\/222401\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wonder Park<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, giving it a chance to play around in over 3,800 theaters. With $16 million domestic, the film made just enough to snag the #2 spot at the box office, but that reported budget of $100 million is looking like a steep climb for this roller coaster movie. Critics have so far been mostly unamused, too, so we can expect this one to nosedive by next week.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And Third \u00a0\u2013 &#8216;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Five Feet Apart&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Critics may have found a few faults in the stars of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/five-feet-apart\/273788\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Five Feet Apart<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but audiences were more than happy to check in for this appointment with Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse. The weepy teen romance collected $13.1 million domestically, already surpassing its low budget of $7 million and surpassing Lionsgate\u2019s expectations and then some.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rounding Out The Rest Of The Box Office<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Universal and DreamWorks Animation\u2019s<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/how-to-train-your-dragon-the-hidden-world\/142144\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fell two spots to #4 this week with $9.3 million in the U.S., a less impactful drop than last week despite new animated competition from Paramount. Similarly, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/tyler-perrys-a-madea-family-funeral\/253216\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tyler Perry\u2019s A Madea Family Funeral <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dropped two spots with a domestic take of $8 million, despite playing in about a thousand fewer theaters than <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hidden World<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two more films debuted this week, one in limited release and one in over 2,500 theaters. The latter is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/captive-state\/250733\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captive State <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from Focus Features, which came in at #7 with $3.1 million. And despite only premiering in 472 theaters, Pantelion\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/no-manches-frida-2\/282428\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No Manches Frida 2<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> secured #6 with $3.8 million. This is the second-highest per-theater average in the Top 10, beaten only by <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captain Marvel<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/the-lego-movie-2-the-second-part\/209281\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lego Movie 2<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dropped four spots this week to #8, making just $2.1 million in its 6th week. Aside from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lego Ninjago<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this is the weakest-performing <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lego <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">film by far($171.4 million), making a little over half of what <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lego Batman <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pulled off in 2017, not to mention the first <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lego Movie<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/alita-battle-angel\/233304\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alita: Battle Angel <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is also fading fast, making just $1.9 million in its 5th week and dropping four spots to #9. Despite the point of the \u201cAlita Challenge\u201d being for this film to make more than <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captain Marvel<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it definitely failed in that regard. Regardless, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Battle Angel <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">still\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has slim hopes for a sequel thanks to its worldwide total of $394 million, assuming the marketing budget was far less expensive than it seemed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, our #10 film of the week is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/green-book\/273307\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Book<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which dropped four spots after stalling in place last weekend. Universal\u2019s Oscar trophy collected another $1.2 million domestically in its 18th week.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And They\u2019re Out<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isn\u2019t It Romantic<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apollo 11<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fighting with My Family<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greta <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">all fell out of the Top 10 this week, but the most dramatic drop was definitely <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greta<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which fell eight spots to #16.
