It has been almost a year since audiences suffered the emotional toll of The Snap at the end of the\u00a0Avengers: Infinity War<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Now, as marketing ramps up for\u00a0Avengers: Endgame<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>\u2013\u00a0<\/em>which will conclude more than ten years of storytelling for the MCU’s OG heroes \u2013 we have learned that the original plan was to turn our hearts into snap-dust at the end of this summer’s upcoming blockbuster.<\/p>\n

Longtime Marvel movie writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus recently sat down with\u00a0Empire<\/a> to discuss their process: \u201cWe had so much story in those early drafts of\u00a0Infinity War<\/em>,” McFeely revealed,\u00a0“that, if anything, we thought we maybe shouldn\u2019t do The Snap until the end of act one of\u00a0Endgame<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

As upsetting as The Snap was, we can’t imagine Infinity War<\/em> having ended any other way. (Save for maybe\u00a0Infinity War<\/em> restructured to conclude with the tragic death of Gamora building to a cliffhanger ending of Thanos arriving at Wakanda in search of his last stone.)<\/p>\n

Ultimately, the decision to keep The Snap in\u00a0Infinity War<\/em> came down to its biggest proponent: Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe talked about that ending for years and years and years,\u201d Feige said. \u201cIt was the reason to adapt\u00a0Infinity Gauntlet<\/em>. What was the most shocking thing we could do? End the movie with The Snap.\u201d<\/p>\n
