With an opening weekend estimated to be at $154 million – and a global haul of $302M at the international box office – a lot of eyes are on Carol Danvers as she deservedly becomes the next Avenger to score big with audiences.

Those eyes have likely also noticed that a few scenes glimpsed in the marketing for the film failed to make the final cut. Here’s a look at three scenes that were left on the cutting room floor.

[SPOILER WARNING: Do not read if you have yet to see the movie.]

1. “I’m Not Going to Fight Your War…”

“I’m not going to fight your war. I’m going to end it!”

In the second trailer for Captain Marvel, Danvers can be seen suited up and addressing someone inside Supreme Intelligence’s “chamber” on how she plans to put an end what we guessed was the Kree-Skrull war. It’s the big finishing line to the entire trailer, before the 2:18 spot kicks off some flashily-cut montage of space action. And the line is nowhere to be found in the movie.

Sometimes, dialogue is recorded and/or filmed for movie trailers only, and this line likely falls under that – hence its absence from the final cut.

2. Danvers And Her Team Meet Ronan

One of the first promotion stills from the movie was the above image that depicted Danvers (a.k.a. Vers) and the rest of her Starforce team encountering Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Ronan the Accuser in a hangar. Fans were understandably excited to see this sequence in action, but that was not meant to be. Moreover, not only is the scene absent from the movie, Ronan never physically shares screentime in a location with any members of Starforce.

As the filmmakers have stated that the goal of the movie was to service and tell Carol’s story, this sequence may have gotten in the way of achieving that as effectively as Marvel intended. Hopefully, we get to see more of this encounter on the Blu-ray’s deleted scenes section.

3. Yon-Rogg Telling Danvers She Isn’t Ready

(Credit: Marvel Studios)

A staple in origin stories like the one Captain Marvel tells is a scene or two where the hero’s mentor – and, in this case, also the villain – engage in some kind of training exercise that shows off the hero’s skillset in a way that establishes it is both formidable and still somewhat raw around the edges – at least in the estimation of the mentor.

Jude Law as Yon-Rogg delivers a version of this in the film’s trailer, culminating in him poking at Danvers’ forehead and insisting, “You’re not ready.” It’s a safe bet that this exchange would have occurred during the sparring match in the first 15 minutes of the movie between Vers and Yon-Rogg and was cut for time or for maybe being too on the nose given how nuanced the ideas behind what is directly said here are layered more subtly and visually throughout the film.

4. ‘I’m Kinda Over You Telling Me What I Can’t Do.’

Not gonna lie, we wish this line from Danvers survived the final cut.

This exchange, likely to have occurred between Captain Marvel and Yon-Rogg, was perhaps cut due to it hitting the same beat as Carol’s badass declaration to Yon-Rogg at the end that she doesn’t have to prove herself to anyone – especially him. Maybe we’ll see this on the Blu-ray, too, someday?

5. Ronan And Yon-Rogg Visit Supreme Intelligence

While not seen in any of the trailers (that we know of, at least), more scenes were shot that involved Ronan, Yon-Rogg, and the Supreme Intelligence (Annette Bening).

Reddit user BrandonAUS claims they worked on the VFX for a deleted sequence that showed Ronan meeting with the Supreme Intelligence before he went off to find Carol and the Tesseract. (Giving the timeline of events in the final film, it seems that this sequence occurred in the second act).

BrandonAUS also claimed on Reddit that Danvers’ trippy scenes with Supreme Intelligence were also “heavily cut down.” Cut entirely from the film was Yon-Rogg’s visit with Intelligence, where Intelligence assumes the form of the person Yon-Rogg admires most: Himself.

Marvel’s home entertainment offerings tend not to skimp on the deleted scenes, so fingers crossed that trend continues when Captain Marvel hits Blu-ray and VOD.

Get your tickets to see it a second or third time here.

You Might Also Like

No post was found with your current grid settings.
You should verify if you have posts inside the current selected post type(s) and if the meta key filter is not too much restrictive.

Captain Marvel is the latest Marvel blockbuster to give the studio bragging rights at the box office.
