The demise of Jennifer Lawrence&#8217;s character seems to be what the new trailer for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/x-men-dark-phoenix\/240943\"><em>X-Men: Dark Phoenix<\/em><\/a>\u00a0strongly hints as to the reason why our X-Men are assembled at a funeral at some point in the story. (This is the second time Marvel Comics&#8217; Dark Phoenix storyline was adapted to the big screen that involved a death in the mutant family.)<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1-q8C_c-nlM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Though judging by the explosive action packed into this trailer, it looks like any one of Charles Xavier&#8217;s students could be on the chopping block. Long-time\u00a0<em>X-Men<\/em> movies writer Simon Kinberg makes his feature directorial debut here, which serves as a mulligan of sorts for the storyline that he helped create in 2006&#8217;s maligned\u00a0<em>X3<\/em>.\u00a0<em>Dark Phoenix<\/em> centers on Jean Grey (<em>Game of Thrones<\/em>&#8216; Sophie Turner) struggling to reconcile her new and destructive powers when a mysterious figure (played by Jessica Chastain) enters Jean&#8217;s life with the hopes to wield the powers that the young mutant possesses.
