It\u2019s almost time for the 91st annual Academy Awards and the questions about how this year\u2019s show will pan out are arguably at an all-time high. With no host on the books, presenters more representative of the zeitgeist than ever before<\/a> (with the Academy still using previous winners but not as liberally), and a limited number of musical performances \u2014 to name just a few noticeable changes \u2014 we\u2019re not sure what we can expect from the 2019 Oscars<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, when it comes to the Best Picture category, the race is as heated as it ever was thanks to a category absolutely stacked with incredible films<\/a>. This year, the eight Best Picture nominees are\u00a0Black Panther,\u00a0BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, The\u00a0Favourite, Green Book, Roma, A Star Is Born<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Vice<\/i>. Some of these films, like\u00a0Bohemian Rhapsody, The\u00a0Favourite,\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0Green Book<\/i>, have already cleaned up in major categories at this year\u2019s previous award shows, including the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs. It remains to be seen whether the past wins are a solid predictor of success at the Oscars, but we can\u2019t count anyone out at this point in the race.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Each film brings to the table a different kind of appeal.\u00a0Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0A Star Is Born<\/i>\u00a0were bold crowd-pleasers with punchy visuals and performances to match;\u00a0BlacKkKlansman, Green Book\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0Vice\u00a0<\/i>had politically-minded bones to pick and took viewers back to charged moments in U.S. history that still resonate today;\u00a0Roma<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0The\u00a0Favourite<\/i>\u00a0were period dramas loosely based on autobiographical or historical events that gave us female characters to cheer for, cry with, and study closely. Choosing a winner out of this pack will be tough.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
