This week, a new sci-fi blockbuster leads the 4-day weekend as romantic comedies and under-performing sequels compete for the Top 5.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Week\u2019s Top Earner \u2013 &#8216;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alita: Battle Angel&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/E4Fal4EnOqo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t underestimate James Cameron. He co-wrote and co-produced Fox\u2019s latest franchise starter, which opened in the U.S. with $34.3 million over President\u2019s Day weekend. But the real cause for celebration is the film\u2019s victory overseas, collecting an additional $54 million in three days. And the film hasn\u2019t even dropped in China and Japan yet. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At $137.3 million worldwide in just its first week off of a reportedly $170-200 million budget, it\u2019s looking like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/alita-battle-angel\/233304\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alita: Battle Angel <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">may soldier on with a sequel, after all. That\u2019s assuming China and Japan really show up for this film over the next few weeks to make this one a worldwide hit.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Second Place \u00a0\u2013 &#8216;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The LEGO Movie: The Second Part&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xSz4xnQlEAY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WB\u2019s follow up to the wildly successful <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LEGO Movie<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> slipped just 19% this week, clinching the #2 spot easily with $27.3 million domestic. Overseas, the film isn\u2019t doing&#8230;awesome. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/the-lego-movie-2-the-second-part\/209281\"><em>The LEGO Movie 2:\u00a0<\/em><\/a><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Second Part <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">only made $12 million internationally, and with a new animated franchise sequel dropping next week, it\u2019ll gain some tough competition as we move into a crowded spring season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, the film has made $10.34 million worldwide off of a reported budget of $99 million, so it will likely be a modest hit for WB. Just not the supersized winner the first film was.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/the-lego-movie-2-review\/\">Read Atom Insider&#8217;s review of <em>The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part<\/em> here.\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And Third \u2013 &#8216;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isn\u2019t It Romantic&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8ZwgoVmILQU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Couples had plenty to see this weekend, and quite a few chose Rebel Wilson\u2019s romantic comedy parody <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/isnt-it-romantic\/250460\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isn\u2019t It Romantic<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The film brought in a solid $16.6 million domestically, securing its #3 spot. Debuting on Wednesday helped it as well because the film now has $22.8 million just in the U.S. Its reported budget is $31 million, so Warner Bros now has two decent hits this week in the Top 3 box office.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rounding Out The Rest Of The Box Office<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paramount\u2019s own high-concept romantic comedy, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/what-men-want\/261967\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Men Want<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dropped two spots to #4 this weekend after making $12.3 million domestically. It played well all week, however, and has a worldwide total of $40 million (mostly in the U.S.), which is double its reported budget of $20 million. (You can our review <a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/what-men-want-review\/\">here<\/a>.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite opening this weekend in over 3200 theaters, Universal\u2019s slasher\/sci-fi comedy <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/happy-death-day-2u\/279939\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Happy Death Day 2U <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">underperformed. It only made $11 million domestically, just barely landing the #5 spot. Thanks to a low $9 million budget, the film is already doing fine at $26.5 million worldwide, but this has to sting for a franchise that looked like the next big thing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/cold-pursuit\/277644\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cold Pursuit <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">didn\u2019t do so hot, either. The Lionsgate film dropped three spots to #6 in its second week after making just $7 million domestic ($22.1 million total). The reported budget for this one might be as high as $60 million, so this is looking like a tough loss for the studio. (Read our review <a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/cold-pursuit-review\/\">here<\/a>.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once again, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/the-upside\/252727\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Upside <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">held on to its lead over <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/glass\/240900\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Glass<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, despite hanging in that film\u2019s shadow for a while. They both grabbed the #7 and #8 spot respectively, despite each one losing hundreds of theaters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/the-prodigy\/276341\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prodigy <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dropped a few spots to #9 this week, just barely hanging on to the Top 10 with $3.6 million in its second week. Orion\u2019s supernatural horror is fading fast, but its low $6 million budget and worldwide haul of $11.5 million will keep it in the black.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, Universal\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/green-book\/273307\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Book <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fell three spots to #10 with $3.4 million domestically.
