Before the awards air <a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/how-to-watch-oscars-2019\/\">on ABC, February 24 at 8pm EST\/7pm CT<\/a>, we think you should get as prepped as possible. Grant (<i>Can You Ever Forgive Me?<\/i>)<\/li>\n<li>Adam Driver (<i>Blackkklansman<\/i>)<\/li>\n<li>Sam Rockwell (<i>Vice<\/i>)<\/li>\n<li>Sam Elliott (<i>A Star Is Born<\/i>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, the nominees for Best Picture are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Black Panther<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>BlacKkKlansman<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>The Favourite<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>A Star Is Born<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>Green Book<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>Bohemian Rhapsody<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>Vice<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>Roma<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>There\u2019s A New Kind Of Voting Body At Work<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those voting on who will win an Oscar are all members of the Academy. This means that, much like other elections big and small, the demographics of the Academy will undoubtedly influence who wins that prized golden statuette. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Things like age, gender identity, sex, race \u2013 even years of experience, socioeconomic status, and job title within the film industry \u2013 may consciously or unconsciously play into any given Academy voter\u2019s decision on how to pick a category winner. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reports as recent as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The New York Times<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 from June 2018 shows that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/06\/25\/business\/media\/oscar-voters-women.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the current Academy voting body<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the largest ever, reportedly clocking in at 8,200 people. The Academy added 928 members in 2018 alone.\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NYT <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also noted that approximately 49% of those who joined the Academy in 2018 were women and that that new group of members was notably more diverse, especially across racial lines with inductees including Jada Pinkett Smith, Sofia Boutella, Amy Schumer, Tiffany Haddish, and Christine Baranski. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s difficult to even begin to guess how this year\u2019s Academy voting body will vote, but in categories like Best Picture \u2013 where a critically-successful and audience-approved film like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Black Panther <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">got through \u2013 it\u2019s easier to see where Academy members are leaning&#8230;or at least starting to.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>There Will Not Be A Host<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yup, you read that right. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps the most notable controversy of the 2019 Oscars was Kevin Hart\u2019s fall from grace shortly after it was announced he would host, ending in his eventual (and stubborn) exit from hosting duties. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The long and short of it (you can read more extensive rundowns <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/leeseymour\/2018\/12\/07\/kevin-hart-steps-down-as-oscar-host-following-homophobia-backlash\/#1d4906cad5b1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">elsewhere<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) is that soon after Hart confirmed in December 2018 that he would be hosting the Oscars, old tweets containing allegedly homophobic content were brought forth, with many claiming this indicated that Hart was not fit to host. Instead of sincerely apologizing for his past tweets and trying to genuinely mend fences (a move the Academy reportedly encouraged Hart to take), Hart chose to step down,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2019\/film\/news\/oscars-no-host-2019-kevin-hart-1203103010\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> leaving the 2019 Oscars host-less<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s unclear how the Academy will structure the Oscars with no host to anchor it, and there hasn\u2019t even been a hint as to what the Academy is really thinking in that regard. There was a rumor floating around that the Academy was <a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/2019-oscars-report-marvel-actors-hosting\/\">scrambling to assemble as many cast members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as possible<\/a> to rotate segment introductions, but so far, it&#8217;s simply been that \u2013 just a rumor. No host means they\u2019ll have to fill the first 15 minutes without the usual host banter \u2014 which will no doubt be interesting to see on its own. Also, potential bits between awards or musical performances might also go out the window with no host to oversee or segue between them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Four Winners Will Be Announced During Commercials<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a controversial move, the Academy announced February 11 that four Oscar categories would be <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/academy-unveils-4-oscars-categories-be-presented-commercial-breaks-1185505\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">presented during the commercial breaks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the acceptance speeches would be shown towards the end of the show. Yeah, we don&#8217;t quite get it either.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those categories are: Best Cinematography, Best Makeup &amp; Hairstyling, Best Live-Action Short Film, and Best Film Editing. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/i\/events\/1095401075819962368\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">decision was met with lots of concern<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and apprehension online, both from celebrities like Russell Crowe and filmmakers like Guillermo del Toro. Movie fans and the general public were also left scratching their heads.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>This Year&#8217;s Presenters Are More Diverse\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to some past winners from the acting categories presenting, the Academy has confirmed the lineup of presenters at this year&#8217;s ceremony and we can\u2019t help but notice that this group is a pleasantly diverse one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Confirmed presenters include <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crazy Rich Asians<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stars Constance Wu and Awkwafina, Amy Poehler, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Evans, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Game of Thrones <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stars Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa, Angela Bassett, Charlize Theron, Samuel L. Jackson, and many more.
