Another Oscar-winner is joining the cast of\u00a0The Witches<\/em> remake.<\/p>\n

Octavia Spencer\u00a0is in talks to appear opposite Anne Hathaway in Robert Zemeckis’ adaptation of the Roald Dahl novel, reports Variety<\/a>. Spencer, who won Best Supporting Actress for her work in “The Help,” will play a “resourceful grandmother of the main character, a seven-year-old boy” who struggles to take down a coven of child-hating witches.<\/p>\n

Newcomers Jahzir Bruno and Codie-Lei Eastick are in negotiations to play the boy and his friend, respectively.<\/p>\n

Anne Hathaway signed on to play the Grand High Witch back in Jan. 2019, a role previously played by Anjelica Huston in the 1990 film directed by the late Nicolas Roeg.<\/p>\n

In addition to directing the film, Zemeckis is also producing with Oscar-winners\u00a0Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro.\u00a0Del Toro also wrote a previous draft of the script.<\/p>\n

“The Witches” is set to hit theaters sometime in 2020.<\/p>\n
