Now, the full critic reviews are in and now that we have the full view of things, it&#8217;s safe to say <em>Deadpool &amp; Wolverine<\/em> might be the best Marvel movie since <em>Avengers: Endgame<\/em> &#8211; and that&#8217;s not our word for it, that&#8217;s directly from a review. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marvel has been keeping plot details on a pretty secure lockdown. As with many MCU movies, the trailers don&#8217;t show as much as audiences may think; virtually all of the footage from the trailers and promo campaign has been from the first 40 minutes of the movie. The third act remains a mystery. As such, we don&#8217;t want to spoil things for readers, but will remind them of what the trailers show: Deadpool \u2013 or a version of Deadpool, at least \u2013\u00a0is summoned by a version of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) to save his universe, which is in peril. Along the way, he recruits a very reluctant Wolverine \u2013\u00a0or a version of Wolverine, at least \u2013\u00a0to help him on his quest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Deadpool &amp; Wolverine | Final Trailer | In Theaters July 26\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Idh8n5XuYIA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, Deadpool is and has always been an acquired taste as a character, and as <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/obsessed\/deadpool-and-wolverine-is-kick-in-the-nuts-the-mcu-needs?ref=author\">The Daily Beast<\/a><\/em>&#8216;s Nick Schager aptly reminds, &#8220;As with its predecessors, those who can\u2019t stand Deadpool or aren\u2019t educated in Marvel movie lore won\u2019t tolerate a second of it. The rest will be in bleeping heaven.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Those who worried that Deadpool would be Mickey Mouseified once in Disney&#8217;s hands, though, need not fear. As Schager continues<br><br>&#8220;This is par for the series\u2019 course, as is R-rated violence and profanity of an outrageous and adolescent sort. One second Levy is staging a massacre accomplished via the use of skeleton bones and embellished by an *NSYNC dance routine, and the next he\u2019s having Reynolds\u2019 anti-hero crack wise about the fact that &#8216;pegging isn\u2019t new to me, but it is for Disney.&#8217; Though he\u2019s desperate to demonstrate that he\u2019s more than simply an &#8216;annoying one-trick pony,&#8217; this is the Deadpool that fans love and haters hate, with Reynolds staying true to the characters\u2019 gleefully obnoxious, dirty spirit.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>That R rating is alive and well, according to critics, which should please fans of the Merc with a Mouth. Here&#8217;s what other critics had to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Matt Zoller Seitz &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rogerebert.com\/reviews\/deadpool-and-wolverine-2024\">Roger Ebert<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;Corrin, who played Princess Diana in Netflix\u2019s &#8216;The Crown,&#8217; makes a frightening villain, with her predatory stare, bird-boned arms and legs, and long, elegant fingers. The movie pushes some of Cassandra\u2019s torturous or murderous acts to the point where they seem like spiritual as well as physical violations. When this woman gets in your head, it\u2019s not a metaphor. (Between the profanity, the gore, and the sadomasochistic bent, this entry is as not-for-kids as the others.)&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Richard Lawson &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/story\/deadpool-and-wolverine-movie-review\">Vanity Fair<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;It\u2019s also bloody and profane, as Levy travels far afield of his more family-friendly fare like\u00a0<em>Free Guy<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Night at the Museum<\/em>. His direction seems invigorated by the stylistic shift; action sequences in\u00a0<em>Deadpool &amp; Wolverine<\/em>\u00a0have a pleasing snap, a purposeful physics and momentum that differentiate the film from much recent superhero slop. Brash and loud and rambling as it often is,\u00a0<em>Deadpool &amp; Wolverine<\/em>\u00a0was made with some actual consideration for texture and tempo.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Richard Whittaker &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austinchronicle.com\/events\/film\/2024-07-26\/deadpool-and-wolverine\/\">Austin Chronicle<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;[R]eal-world MCU supremo Kevin Feige has turned all the &#8216;no&#8217; switches to &#8216;yes&#8217; and unleashed the most violent, funny, self-critiquing, cameo-laden MCU film imaginable. Deadpool even gets to tell us, to our faces, that the Multiverse sucks. So whether you\u2019re here for obscure characters like Charles Xavier\u2019s lost twin Cassandra Nova (Corrin), grisly sword vs. claw fights, queer comedy, MCU mythology, the cover of\u00a0<em>Uncanny X-Men<\/em>\u00a0#251, or just Jackman and Reynolds having a blast being hams,\u00a0<em>Deadpool &amp; Wolverine<\/em>\u00a0has you covered.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Amy Nicholson &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/entertainment\/movies\/2024\/07\/23\/deadpool-wolverine-reynolds-jackman-review\/\">Washington Post<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;Wisecracking about his, and their, mistakes like he\u2019s trying to win couples therapy, Deadpool represents what mainstream Marvel flicks couldn\u2019t do: make a hard R-rated movie with more curses per minute than a convention of witches. He\u2019s what they have to do to win back an audience who\u2019s outgrown them.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Brian Truitt &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/movies\/2024\/07\/23\/deadpool-wolverine-movie-review\/74496506007\/\">USA Today<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;Since both heroes have the ability to bounce back from any nasty wound, there\u2019s a &#8216;Looney Tunes&#8217; level of cartoonish carnage they can perpetrate on foes, as well as each other. Acting-wise, the leads get past their characters\u2019 superficial qualities \u2013 Deadpool\u2019s politically incorrect snark, Wolverine\u2019s grumpy broodiness \u2013 to dig into their vulnerabilities. Jackman especially runs a gamut of emotions as a Logan lashing out because of the trauma he\u2019s faced; whatever they\u2019re paying him in cash and themed popcorn buckets is not enough.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Liz Shannon Miller &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2024\/07\/deadpool-3-review-wolverine-ryan-reynolds\/\">Consequence<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;Levy\u2019s got a steady hand with the\u00a0<em>Deadpool<\/em>\u00a0action, and the R is earned honestly, yet there isn\u2019t the same level of grown-up grit found in the previous\u00a0<em>Deadpool<\/em>\u00a0films; instead, this is over-the-top video game violence, appropriate for a multiverse-hopping comic book tale like this one, but not\u00a0<em>quite<\/em>\u00a0the Deadpool showcased during the anti-hero\u2019s 20th Century Fox era. Those films felt more like they were made for grown-ups;\u00a0<em>Deadpool &amp; Wolverine<\/em>, meanwhile, will make a pegging joke but fail to show the strap-on.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps the most exciting review comes from a bit of Truitt&#8217;s that says it all with half a sentence: &#8220;The best of the MCU outings since \u201cAvengers: Endgame.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/deadpool-wolverine\/330090\">Get tickets to <em>Deadpool &amp; Wolverine<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Deadpool &amp; Wolverine is in and like we wrote last week, the first reactions were great.
