Even with the writers’ strike, Hollywood news isn’t slowing down. This week finds Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse smashing the box office (still), a few exciting DC updates, John Williams being wonderful, and more.

As always, Atom Insider brings you a few hand-picked stories we think you’ll like. Ready? Let’s dive in.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Proves Superhero Fatigue Isn’t Real

The so-so performance of The Flash at the box office has, yet again, reignited the top of “superhero fatigue.” Those paying attention to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, however, know it’s not real. Sony’s animated sequel has officially crossed the half-billion mark at the global box office, having racked up $506.3 million through Tuesday. Considering its estimated budget of $100 million, and the fact it hasn’t seen much of a drop-off from week to week, and the spider-legs for the flick look good. When you have great characters and innovative storytelling, audiences will turn out, saturated with superheroes or not.

Gal Gadot Returning As Wonder Woman? We’ll See!

With the announcement of the third Wonder Woman movie being scrapped in DC’s new(est) shake-up a few months ago, fans assumed it was the last they’d see of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. However, with her leftover cameo in The Flash and a surprise tease she made at Netflix’s TUDUM event, she may not be completely done with the DCU just yet. While speaking with ET, she was asked if she would ever return as Diana Prince. “Things are being worked behind the scenes and once the right moment arrives, you’ll know about it,” revealed Gadot. While that’s not a lot to go on, the fact that new DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are open to discussing her return if the story is right is a great sign. While Wonder Woman 1984 was iffy in quality, the first Wonder Woman movie was arguably the best movie of the old DCEU, and Gadot excels in the role. It would be great if she could continue. Hopefully, something can be worked out.

James Gunn Says He’s Been Blown Away By Superman: Legacy Auditions

In other promising DCU reboot news, new studio co-head James Gunn says he’s been wowed by the auditions he’s seen for Superman: Legacy, which he’s directing. The writer-director-producer shared on Bluesky social that he’d had a busy weekend of auditions for the lead roles and things are looking good: “Amazing amazing weekend of auditions for Superman: Legacy. I’m blown away by some of these actors, among the best I’ve ever seen or worked with.”

A number of names have been circling around the roles of Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane. The former includes Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet, and Tom Brittney. The latter includes Emma Mackey, Rachel Brosnahan, and Phoebe Dynevor. The story will follow the hero’s fight to mesh his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas. The movie is planned to kick off the first phase of the rebooted DCU, which Gunn and Safran are naming “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.” Superman: Legacy is currently scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.

The First Reactions To Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One Are Great

Next, the early reactions from film critics who attended the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One premiere in Rome, Italy have been buzzing. Things are looking good for Team Ethan Hunt.

#MissionImpossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is another winner for the franchise.
