Not every studio turned out for this year’s event, but Marvel and DC certainly did, and they brought the goods. DC revealed teases for its next few movies, while Marvel teased fans with its long-term plans for the next few years, and one special screening of a prequel to a beloved franchise got absolutely rave reviews.

If you missed all the movie news coming out of SDCC 2022, no worries – Atom Insider has got you covered. The first of those is the full reveal of the MCU Phase 5, which means Phase 4 is ending sooner than we realized. Clearly, Phase 5 is really kicking the multiverse arc into high gear. Here’s the slate of Marvel movies and TV shows for Phase 5:

Ant-Man and the Wasp – Quantumania – February 17, 2023
Secret Invasion Season 1 – Spring 2023
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – May 5, 2023
Echo Season 1 – Summer 2023
Loki Season 2 – Summer 2023
The Marvels – July 29, 2023
Blade – November 3, 2023
Ironheart Season 1 – Fall 2023
Agatha: Coven of Chaos Season 1 – Winter 2023/24
Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 – Spring 2024
Captain America: New World Order – May 3, 2024
Thunderbolts – July 26, 2024

MCU Phases 4-6 Are Officially Named ‘The Multiverse Saga’

It shouldn’t be much of a surprise to anyone who has been paying attention, but Marvel also announced at Comic-Con that the MCU Phases 4-6 are now officially named The Multiverse Saga. This is similar to the first three Phases of the MCU, which were collectively named The Infinity Saga for the Infinity Gauntlet/Thanos story arc that brought all three together. Those familiar with the comics know where this is all leading: Secret Wars. That will be followed by not one, but two Avengers movies, similar to Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Those two back-to-back Avengers movies will appropriately be titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 2, 2025) and Avengers: Secret Wars (November 7, 2025). A different, much more benevolent version of Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conquerer named He Who Remains was introduced in season 1 of Loki. The Kang variant, however, looks to be the MCU’s next huge big bad as Thanos was for Phases 1-3.

Amanda Waller Will Return In DC’s ‘Black Adam’

DC clearly wants to make Amanda Waller the Nick Fury of the DCEU as she’s starting to pop up everywhere. Not only has she been in the first two Suicide Squad movies, but she also appeared in the TV show Peacemaker, and it was recently confirmed she’s getting her own spinoff show. Now, it’s been confirmed that she’ll also be returning for the upcoming Black Adam starring Dwayne Johnson as the antihero. It’s not clear how large her role will be, but considering Peacemaker ended with Waller’s own daughter revealing the existence of Task Force X and Waller’s crimes to the world, it’s likely Black Adam will answer at least a few questions about what Waller has been doing since being outed. With Amanda Waller and Black Adam both having ruthless natures, it will be interesting to see if they are allies are foes.

Our Best Look Yet At Dwayne Johnson As Black Adam

Courtesy of EW, DC released an exclusive image that offers the best look at Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam costume yet. Interestingly, his costume is less a pure black than a black and grey mottled getup, which really makes the textures pop. One thing’s for sure: there’s probably no thin foam rubber muscle suit under his costume.

DC Has No Plans To Continue The Snyderverse

Confirming what’s been known for a while but a segment of fandom continues to rail against, DC Chief Creative Officer-Publisher Jim Lee reiterated during Comic-Con that Warner Bros. and DC Films have no plans to continue the Snyderverse. For those unaware, the Snyderverse means the Zack Snyder-helmed DCEU movies and his plans to finish out his Justice League arc. That’s certainly disappointing for his faithful flock and bots that regularly tweet the #RestoretheSnyderVerse hashtag on Twitter. Still, it appears that DC is moving away from Snyder’s original plans and are going in a new direction, with the Snyder Cut meant to be the culmination of his story according to Lee:

“You know what’s amazing, is we spent two years in lockdown, and here we are back at a convention, celebrating the artform, feeling good. I work on the projects that are in development, right? I think the Snyder Cut was Zack’s vision realized, and it was a really satisfying story told, but there’s no plans for additional work on that material. I was happy to help contribute to the pitch for the other stuff, and it kind of was fun to see that stuff get out there because I did that years ago. I actually thought it had been erased, but they had kept it in storage.”

So there you have it. Even so, a few of Snyder’s original Justice League actors like Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa will be returning for sequels to their movies. There are also plenty of exciting DCEU projects on the way. DC fans will continue to eat well, even if it’s not the meal that Zack Snyder prepared.

‘Predator’ Prequel ‘Prey’ Getting Rave Reviews From SDCC

A special screening of Prey, the prequel to Predator, was held at SDCC 2022, and from the looks of it, it’s the best Predator movie in ages. In fact, it even received a standing ovation after that SDCC screening:

#PreyMovie received a roaring standing ovation from the fans during the @Collider San Diego screening. pic.twitter.com/0axidFuBKf
— Predator (@Predator) July 22, 2022

The earliest reactions from that Comic-Con audience have praised Prey for its gore and action, its suspenseful nature, and how it returns the franchise to its roots.
