But there were still new movies last year and quite a few great ones at that. As the year came to a close, lots of sites took various looks at the best of 2020, and we wanted to highlight a few of those here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The staff at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pajiba.com\">Pajiba<\/a> did a roundup of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pajiba.com\/film_reviews\/the-10-best-films-of-2020.php\">the 10 best films of 2020<\/a>\u201d, with several recent films making the cut. In fact, their top film, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/promising-young-woman\/304067\">Promising Young Woman<\/a><\/em> is playing in theaters right now (where they\u2019re open, obviously).<\/li><br>\n\n<li>Over at <a href=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\">Film School Rejects<\/a> they focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/best-non-english-international-movies-2020\/\">the best non-English language movies of 2020<\/a>, highlighting an often under-looked and under-appreciated segment (at least here in the States). Ashamed to say that I\u2019ve only seen two of these, so I think I\u2019ve got some homework to do.<\/li><br>\n\n<li>If you\u2019re looking for one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rogerebert.com\/collections\/best-documentaries-2020-list\">the best documentaries of 2020<\/a>, here\u2019s a very comprehensive list from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rogerebert.com\">RogerEbert.com<\/a> which includes my personal fave, <em>The Painter and the Thief<\/em> (one of those two movies from the Film School Rejects list that I\u2019ve seen, no less!).<\/li><br>\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slashfilm.com\/\">Slashfilm<\/a> highlighted eleven (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KOO5S4vxi0o\" data-rel=\"lightbox-video-0\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cit\u2019s one louder\u201d<\/a>) of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slashfilm.com\/most-memorable-performances-of-2020\/\">the most memorable movie performances of 2020<\/a> which includes my personal favorite, Anthony Carrigan as robot Dennis Caleb McCoy in <em>Bill &amp; Ted Face the Music<\/em>.<\/li><br>\n\n<li>Finally, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\">IndieWire<\/a> crew compiled a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/video\/2020-best-movie-scenes-1234606756\/\">the 10 best film scenes of 2020<\/a>, except, it\u2019s not actually a list. Rather, they made a great video of the scenes which \u201care some of the only souvenirs we hope to take with us from 2020:\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/content.jwplatform.com\/players\/aZ3FwET0-NMELGwDP.html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"auto\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s fair to say that 2020 was not what any of us expected in a lot of ways, including at the local movie theater.
