Oscar Isaac and Jake Gyllenhaal will soon help to bring that story to life in Francis and the Godfather. Isaac is set to play Coppola and Gyllenhaal studio exec and producer Robert Evans in the story about the making of The Godfather from a Black List script from Andrew Farotte. Barry Levinson, who did a second pass over the script, will direct. Coppola, surprisingly, is on board with he project, particularly with Levinson directing, saying, “Any movie that Barry Levinson makes about anything, will be interesting and worthwhile!” He’s not wrong. Levinson’s impressive directing resume includes films like The Natural, Good Morning, Vietnam and Rain Man. We’re very curious to see how this one turns out.

Jamie Foxx Returning As Spider-Man Villain Electro, This Time In The MCU

Following on the footsteps of J.K. Simmons reprising his role of J. Jonah Jameson from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy in Spider-Man: Far From Home, another former Spider-Man foe is returning: Jamie Foxx, who appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will be reprising his role of Electro in the third Marvel Spider-Man movie. It’s unclear if his version of Electro will be exactly like the one from Sony’s TASM franchise or a slightly modified version like Simmons’ JJJ in Far From Home. One thing is for certain, however: With Michael Keaton’s Vulture showing up in the trailer for Sony’s Morbius and a Kraven movie confirmed, they’re clearly building up to a Sinister Six showdown. What’s more, it now appears Marvel and Sony are building a multiverse concept between them. Count us in.

Billy Crudup In Talks To Join ‘The Flash’ Movie (Again)

Speaking of actors returning to superhero movies, Warner Bros.’ DCEU offers a slightly different spin. Bill Crudup is in talks to rejoin the cast of The Flash movie – again. Crudup, who played Barry Allen/The Flash’s father, Dr. Henry Allen, in Justice League, had previously already signed on to be in The Flash movie back in 2016. But with the revolving carousel of directors and numerous script rewrites, Crudup dropped out of the project when it appeared it was in limbo. But with IT director Andy Muschietti firmly on board as director and a script finally in place, Crudup is open to rejoining the project, which has suddenly gone from all but dead in the water to one of WB’s hottest properties. This is in part thanks to Muschietti being at the helm, but more recently due to the news of Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck reprising their roles as different iterations of Batman. If you’re wondering how that’s possible, know that The Flash‘s story deals with time travel and alternate timelines. Excellent.

Ryan Reynolds Explains Why He’s So Comfortable Poking Fun At His Career

Ryan Reynolds has made a career and a marketing strategy out of making fun of himself. It’s an angle virtually no actor in Hollywood dares take, and during the virtual press conference for his upcoming movie Free Guy, Reynolds was asked how he got so comfortable mocking himself and the flops in his past. He explained it started out simply as him noticing there was a gap that he could capitalize on in marketing, saying, “It seemed like a really interesting white space, to be honest. You don’t get a lot of – in the marketing world in particular, you don’t get a lot of people shining a spotlight on their own pitfalls… There’s usually very little acknowledgment of that.” But over time, that approach transformed how he viewed his career and life in general. “[I]n examining it, you take that energy that is typically – maybe it’s hurtful or maybe it’s something that’s dragging you down, and you end up creating a sort of mental Judo with it. You’re using its energy against it and creating something positive out of it,” he said, though he was quick to explain he always makes fun of himself, never the people he’s worked with. Just another reason he’s one of our favorites.

The ‘Resident Evil’ Movie Franchise Is Getting A Reboot With A Stacked Cast

Never an industry to let profitable franchises stay dormant for long, Hollywood is rebooting the Resident Evil series based on the popular video games from Capcom. More specifically, Constantin Films is rebooting the series, with Johannes Roberts set to direct. Roberts also wrote the script, which he says is an official original origin story that has close ties to Capcom’s games, set in 1998 and following the events that unfold one fateful night in Raccoon City. What’s more, a stacked cast has already been added: Kaya Scodelario will play Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen is set for Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper will step into the role of Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy, and veteran Neal McDonough as William Birkin. This is a completely new reboot, so Milla Jovovich will not be appearing or reprising her role as Alice. This could be a great movie if done right.

‘Get Out’ Star Allison Williams Reteaming With Blumhouse For Sci-Fi Horror ‘M3GAN’

More news for horror movie fans: Get Out‘s Allison Williams is starring in and producing Blumhouse’s sci-fi, tech horror M3GAN. Gerard Johnstone will direct off a script from Akela Cooper, based on an original story idea by James Wan. Wan and Jason Blum will produce. Williams plays Gemma, a brilliant roboticist for a toy company who creates M3GAN, a life-like doll powered by A.I. and meant to be a kid’s companion and a help to parents. When she gains unexpected custody of her niece, Gemma decides to enlist the help of her M3GAN prototype and it leads to terrifying events. A malevolent doll powered by A.I. is similar to last year’s reboot of Child’s Play, in which Chucky was revamped as an A.I.-powered doll whose A.I. goes haywire. It will be interesting to see how Blumhouse tackles the idea of A.I. gone wrong.

Last but not least, check out our Quick Hits column that rounds up all the bits and bobs of news that don’t quite make the cut for a full article but are still interesting updates:

Gender-flipped She’s All That remake finds male lead

John Cena & Idris Elba reteaming for Heads of State

First trailer for The Witches drops

An update on the Tomb Raider sequel

Idris Elba to star in survival thriller Beast

First images of Chadwick Boseman’s final movie

The Gentlemen TV series spinoff in the works

Blade finally hits 4K Ultra HD

Bette Midler confirms she’ll be in Hocus Pocus sequel

The Craft remake shares great first trailer

Could we be getting a Hackers sequel?

Borat sequel gets a trailer and amazing title

Disney sets dates for next D23 Expo

Hollywood was on temporary pause but productions are gearing back up, release dates continue to be tweaked in preparation for theaters reopening, and things are slowly starting to return to normal – or at least, our temporary new normal.
