This time, however, he’s playing the role of producer instead of director. He’ll be producing the U.S. remake of Korean cult hit Haemoo, tentatively titled Sea Fog. Matt Palmer is set to direct the remake of the 2014 Korean movie which itself is an adaptation of a 2007 stage play. It’s based on a true story of the crew of a fishing vessel that smuggled undocumented immigrants from China into Korea and the tragedy of human trafficking. Hopefully, Bong will have quite a bit of input as a producer and we’ll see his fingerprints all over it.

Neve Campbell Is Officially Back On Board For ‘Scream 5’

After months of speculation, it was announced that ’90s scream queen Neve Campbell is officially returning as Sidney Prescott for Scream 5. She joins previously-announced returning cast members Courtney Cox and David Arquette, bringing the long-lasting OG trio back together again. The movie, which will be directed by Ready or Not‘s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, aims to be a soft reboot of the franchise, with a host of newcomers joining the franchise, ostensibly to carry the torch moving forward. The loose synopsis is that a woman returns to her hometown of Woodsboro to investigate a series of crimes that have happened around the area. Let’s hope Sidney Prescott survives one last time.

‘Dune’ Required The Stunt Team Invent A Brand-New Form Of Hand-To-Hand Combat

Denis Villeneuve is going all-out for his big-screen adaptation of Dune. It took him a year to get the design of the iconic sandworms right, he insisted on signing on for two movies in order to tell the story the way it was meant to be told. The man is honoring the source material. To that end, he and the stunt team worked together to create an entirely new form of physical combat for the movie. In the book, scientists have invented something called the Holtzman shield, which can be worn around the body like a protective suit of energy. The only way to get past that defensive shield is with something bladed and through deliberate movements. So Villeneuve said he and the stunt team created a style of fighting that is more like a chess match, where the fighter has to plan their moves in advance, rather than a reactive sort of fighting style. Honestly fascinating.

’90s Teen Comedy ‘She’s All That’ Getting A Gender-Flipped Remake With TikTok Star

The ’90s remake train continues, but this time, there’s a twist: ’90s teen rom-com She’s All That is getting the remake treatment courtesy of Miramax. This time, however, it’s a gender-flipped version of the original movie, with a hot, popular influencer taking an awkward nerd and trying to turn him into the prom king. What’s more, Miramax eschewed conventional casting and cast TikTok star Addison Rae Easterling as the popular kid, the role formerly held by Freddie Prinze Jr. in the 1999 original. The project, which has been kicked around Hollywood for a few years, has assembled a good portion of the original team behind it. R. Lee Fleming, who wrote the 1999 movie, will write the remake and original producers Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay are back. Veteran teen rom-com director Mark Waters is set to direct.

Madonna Is Directing A Movie About Her Own Iconic Life

It’s extremely unusual for megastars to be intimately involved in biopics about their life. But then, Madonna isn’t just any megastar, but one who has made a career out of pushing the envelope. So, of course, she’s not only co-writing but will also be directing the movie about her life. Oscar-winner Diablo Cody co-wrote the script with her, which tells the story of Madonna’s early life in the slums of New York City to the heights of global superstardom. Madonna will also be reuniting with producer Amy Pascal on the project; the two previously worked together on A League of Their Own. Similar to what Rocketman did with Elton John’s music or Bohemian Rhapsody with Queen, we can expect it to be a musical biopic full of Madonna’s hits.

‘Lovecraft Country’ Star Jonathan Majors Cast In ‘Ant-Man 3’ – Playing A Major Villain?

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Da 5 Bloods and Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors has been cast in Ant-Man 3. As one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars, this news is exciting. But even more exciting is the fact sources are reporting he’s playing Kang the Conquerer. The Marvel supervillain is a time-traveler who has been most frequently the foe of the Avengers but has also battled numerous Marvel heroes in various timelines and eras over the years. Older and younger versions of him have even been heroes by the name of, respectively, Immortus and Iron Lad. The most intriguing thing of all is that Kang is technically Reed Richards’ father. Will Ant-Man 3 use Kang and the Quantum Realm as an in to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU? It’s entirely possible.

Last but not least, check out our Quick Hits column that rounds up all the bits and bobs of news that don’t quite make the cut for a full article but are still interesting updates:

Rey was originally going to be a Kenobi

McG says there’s a darker director’s cut of Terminator: Salvation

The Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series will shoot next spring

The Academy sets full inclusion requirements for Oscars

Sacha Baron Cohen secretly shot & screened Borat 2

Jamie Foxx & Teyonah Parris join They Cloned Tyrone

Chadwick Boseman’s high school honoring him with scholarship

Speculation: Will Wong appear in Shang-Chi?

Hollywood was on temporary pause but productions are gearing back up, release dates continue to be tweaked in preparation for theaters reopening, and things are slowly starting to return to normal – or at least, our temporary new normal.
