Hollywood was on temporary pause but productions are gearing back up, release dates continue to be tweaked in preparation for theaters reopening, and things are slowly starting to return to normal \u2013 or at least, our temporary new normal. Entertainment news has once again begun to drop with regularity. In case you missed it, here\u2019s all the best news and tidbits from the last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sony Pictures Offering First-Ever Pop-Up Drive-In Movie Experience On A Studio Lot<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s a fun event: Sony Pictures announced it will be offering a high-end pop-up drive-in experience on its lot starting Friday, August 14th. It’s the first time a studio has ever offered drive-in viewings on its lot, and it should be fun for everyone. The movies are a variety from the Sony vault:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tickets will be $30 per car ($25 ticket + $5 convenience fee) up to 75 cars per showing. Movies will run Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays starting at 8:00pm. In addition, Selena Gomez-produced The Broken Hearts Gallery will eschew a traditional premiere of favor of holding its first screening at the Sony pop-up lot. Porsche Cars North America, who is the sponsor, will also be on-hand to show off its first all-electric sports car, the Taycan, as well as the Cayenne Coupe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Garth Davis Tapped To Direct New \u2018Tron\u2019 Movie Starring Jared Leto<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ten years after Tron: Legacy<\/em>, which came 28 years after the original Tron<\/em>, Disney is finally moving forward with a third movie starring Jared Leto. While reports stressed it hasn’t been officially greenlit yet and is still in development, the studio has taken one step toward it happening by tapping Lion<\/em> director Garth Davis to direct. The most recent draft of the script has been written by Jesse Wigutow, and Leto, who has been attached to the Tron<\/em> franchise for years, will also be pulling producer duties with Emma Ludbrook and Justin Springer. There’s no word yet on the story, but it would appear Disney is finally happy with the direction of the franchise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018John Wick\u2019 Duo To Tackle Remake Of South Korea\u2019s \u2018The Man From Nowhere\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Action fans should be pumped about this one: Longtime John Wick<\/em> director and fight coordinator Chad Stahelski and John Wick<\/em> writer Derek Kolstad are teaming up for a new movie that hopefully launches a new franchise for New Line. Stahelski and Kolstad will be tackling the English-language remake of South Korean action flick The Man From Nowhere<\/em>. The story and action are right in the duo’s wheelhouse: Cha Tae-sik, a reclusive pawnshop owner with a violent past, returns to his old ways when a drug and organ smuggling cartel kidnap the little girl who is his only friend. All due respect to the great Spike Lee, but I expect this will be a far better American remake of a Korean action classic than the Oldboy<\/em> remake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom Hanks In Talks To Play Geppetto In Disney\u2019s Live-Action \u2018Pinocchio\u2019 (Again)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a bit of casting news that seems so fitting it’s all-but-inevitable, America’s dad Tom Hanks is in talks to play woodcarver Geppetto in Disney’s live-action remake of Pinocchio<\/em>. This isn’t the first time Hanks has been in talks for the role: Back in 2018, he was attached when Paddington<\/em> director Paul King was set to direct. But King dropped out and with the project in limbo, so did Hanks. Disney soon signed Robert Zemeckis on to direct, hoping the longtime working relationship between him and Hanks would entice the beloved actor back to the negotiation table, and indeed, it has. Nothing is set in stone yet, but Hanks reportedly reached out to Zemeckis after reading the newest script and talks restarted, so he appears to be very much on board so far. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Candyman\u2019 Director Nia DaCosta Set To Direct \u2018Captain Marvel 2\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In some of the most exciting news in months, it’s been announced that Candyman<\/a><\/em> director Nia DaCosta is set to direct Captain Marvel 2<\/em>. Marvel has taken its time developing the sequel to last year’s monster blockbuster, which confirmation that it’s happening not coming until earlier this year. Likewise, they’ve done a thorough search for the director for the sequel before landing on DaCosta, though it was reported she had been the frontrunner for a while. Whatever vision she brought to the table was one that Marvel was clearly on board with early on, and it’s exciting. DaCosta is one of the hottest young up-and-coming filmmakers in Hollywood. Her Candyman<\/em> remake his one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and her debut film, Little Woods<\/em>, was layered and gripping. Count us all the way in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
