Awards season is long, there\u2019s a lot going on, everybody\u2019s tired. But honestly, how can you watch\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/parasite\/291495\">Parasite<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">take home that many wins <a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/why-these-movies-won-at-the-2020-oscars\/\">and not get hyped for what the next year can bring<\/a>? Movies are great! Sure, it\u2019s way too early to tell if any of the below will receive nominations. We haven\u2019t even seen many of them yet. But wild speculation is\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fun<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and you clicked on this link so we\u2019re going on this ride together.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0Let&#8217;s take a look at which of this year&#8217;s movies have a shot at being nominated for an Oscar next year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>1. News Of The World<\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We haven\u2019t seen or heard much about\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/news-of-the-world\/299932\">News of the World<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">just yet, but that\u2019s mostly because it doesn\u2019t come out until Christmas this year. All the same, the premise has the makeup of an Oscar darling. Adapted from the novel of the same name, the film revolves around a newsreader who has to get an orphan to her last living relatives in the wake of the Civil War. That newsreader also just so happens to be played by one Tom Hanks, so you can bet there\u2019ll be a Best Actor nomination in there at the very least.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>2. Portrait Of A Lady On Fire<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cqPl5yUEc44?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This French stunner wowed at Cannes\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in 2019 and absolutely deserves to be a part of the Oscar conversation for 2021. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/portrait-of-a-lady-on-fire\/292663\">Portrait of a Lady on Fire<\/a><\/em> follows Marianne, a young painter facing an impossible task, and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">H\u00e9lo\u00efse<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, a stubborn aristocrat who both refuses to marry or to pose for portraits. What unfolds between the two is a passionate and forbidden love story that will remain burned in your brain for years to come. Plus, it&#8217;s being distributed in the U.S. by Neon, which just so happens to be the same distributor behind\u00a0<em>Parasite<\/em>.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>3. Pixar\u2019s Onward<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gn5QmllRCn4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">At this point, we\u2019ve all basically assumed that Pixar films are a shoo-in for a Best Animated Feature nomination. The Oscars like films that hit people with the feels, and few studios do it better than Pixar does.\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/onward\/285150\">Onward<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">follows the tale of two brothers as they try to bring their father back from the dead in a seemingly magical land that\u2019s actually been without magic for quite some time. That stuff\u2019s bound to pull at your heartstrings!\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>4. Mulan\u00a0<span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-FlPy1rNgi0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Disney\u2019s live-action retellings haven\u2019t necessarily swept at the Oscars or even been nominated that much, but something about\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/mulan\/240942\">Mulan<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">feels different. I have absolutely no data to back that up, but this is a predictions list filled with a bunch of movies none of us have seen yet, so I\u2019m going to stand by it! This remake leans more heavily into the original myth than the film you remember: there\u2019s no music and no\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mushu<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, but there is more stunning scenery and fight choreography.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>5. In The Heights<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UDe33_t6kpQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Lin Manuel Miranda is basically at the point in his career where I\u2019m going to assume\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">anything<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0he touches will turn to gold. Add that to the fact that\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/in-the-heights\/274190\">In the Heights<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is an adaptation\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of his hugely successful Broadway musical of the same name\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and you can bet he\u2019s got at least one gold statue headed his way for this one.\u00a0 The story follows characters in Hispanic-American neighborhood, Washington Heights, in New York City. It was poignant before and even more relevant now considering the state of things. Something tells me it\u2019s going to matter even more by the time it hits theaters this summer.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>6. Minari<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/minari\/305468\"><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Minari<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">played big at Sundance, taking home both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. Hopefully, that means we\u2019ll see it take off during awards season, as well. The story revolves around a Korean-American family that finds themselves uprooted from their home on the West Coast to rural Arkansas. Said family will have to overcome all the trials that come with a new home, a new life, and difficult soil that refuses to take root.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>7. West Side Story<\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Classic theatre darling adaptation? Check. Stephen Spielberg directing? Check. Whether you\u2019re hyped or annoyed by the idea of this particular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/west-side-story-2020\/292811\"><em>West Side Story<\/em><\/a> remake, you can\u2019t deny that it\u2019s probably going to do the numbers. There\u2019s not a lot more to say on this one!\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>8. Tenet<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qTs_JfqcegE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Christopher Nolan\u2019s upcoming action thriller has come with a whole lot of hype since information on the film started dropping.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Featuring an insane budget of 205 million dollars, fans have high hopes that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/tenet\/293631\"><em>Tenet<\/em><\/a> will wow in all the ways they\u2019ve expected from Nolan and more. We know there\u2019s a secret agent, we know there\u2019s some time travel, and we know said agent is trying to prevent World War III. That\u2019s about it. Honestly? That\u2019s all I want to know. This one seems like the type that you should go in as blind as possible. It also seems like the type that\u2019s going to win some FX gold, and perhaps snag some nominations in some of the bigger categories.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>9. The French Dispatch<\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We don\u2019t know a ton about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/the-french-dispatch\/307090\"><em>The French Dispatch<\/em><\/a>, the upcoming Wes Anderson jam just yet, but it\u2019s coming out this summer<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. At the very least, it will be gorgeous. Because it\u2019s Wes Anderson, we\u2019ve likely got a lot more to look forward to. The limited synopsis of the film is that it will play as kind of an anthology that intertwines the stories of three journalists. The\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">film\u2019s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0also assembled one heck of a cast, including the likes of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Benicio<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Del Toro, Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, Saoirse Ronan, and many, many more.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>10. Hillbilly Elegy<\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ron Howard\u2019s been involved with this one for a hot second. Since Imagine Entertainment acquired the rights in 2017, the film\u2019s assembled quite a cast. Featuring the likes of Amy Adams, Glenn Close, and Gabriel Basso,\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Hillbilly Elegy\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">will be an adaptation of J.D. Vance\u2019s memoir of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the same name. This one&#8217;s set for release in November, so we still haven\u2019t heard a lot of details surrounding the project. All the same, it\u2019s Howard, so it\u2019ll likely get nominated for something!\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Obviously, this is just a smattering of some of the big-name films that are coming our way throughout the next year. Hopefully, we\u2019ll see plenty of little guys surprising us here and there. Maybe, just maybe, The Academy will even dare to nominate a woman for Best Director.\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Parasite\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/oscars-2020-winners\/\">just cleaned house at the Oscars<\/a>.
