This week,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Warner Bros. unleashed its newest superhero (or anti-hero?) team on the masses, but while Joaquin Phoenix was winning an Oscar as the Joker, audiences weren\u2019t exactly flocking to theaters to see Margot Robbie as his ex Harley Quinn forming a suicide squad of her own.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Week\u2019s Top Earner\u00a0 \u2013 \u2018Birds Of Prey\u2019<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GgMHT6xrWaQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No surprise here. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bad Boys for Life <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had a solid three-week hold on #1, but they had to make room for some badass ladies coming in at $33 million domestically. That\u2019s right, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/birds-of-prey-and-the-fantabulous-emancipation-of-one-harley-quinn\/285305\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hit the box office flying with $81 million worldwide in its first weekend, though it also had the Oscars to contend with. It\u2019s just not flying all that high compared to previous DC Extended Universe films, despite positive word of mouth <a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/birds-of-prey-review\/\">and stellar reviews<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Should Warner Bros. blame the R-rating? Potentially, though <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Birds of Prey <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has all the trappings of another <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deadpool <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">success story, both tonally and in how both films have been similarly marketed and released at around the same time. The film has a manageable budget of $84.5 million before accounting for reshoots and advertising, so we\u2019ll have to see in the next few weeks if it has the legs to make off with even more box office loot.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rounding Out The Rest Of The Box Office<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This week\u2019s Top 10 showed a little movement here and there, plus some surprising comebacks thanks to the boost from Oscar season. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bad Boys for Life<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1917<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dolittle <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">all dropped just one spot while keeping their respective rankings on the charts compared to last week, though <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1917 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had a notable drop of just 5% thanks to audiences curious about the latest \u201cBest Picture\u201d frontrunner. Spoiler alert: <a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/oscars-2020-winners\/\"><em>Parasite<\/em> took home the top prize last night<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and it currently stands at #14 (where it\u2019s lingered for about 18 weeks now). We shouldn\u2019t be surprised if it leaps back into the Top 10 over the next week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On that note, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knives Out <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the one Oscar-nominated film boosted back into the Top 10 this weekend. It climbed from #11 to #8 with $2.35 million, as it\u2019s now playing in a little over 1,400 theaters. It just barely edged out <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Little Women<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, another prominent Oscar nominee, which<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">made $2.325 million and dropped to #9 in its seventh week.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And They\u2019re Out<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s a wrap for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Turning <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Universal), which fell two spots to #11 in just its third week. The January horror film has made $17.1 million worldwide against a $14 million budget, so there\u2019s a good chance this one isn\u2019t, ahem, turning a profit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bad news for Paramount. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rhythm Section <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plummeted five spots to #15 in just its second week, and that\u2019s despite playing in over 3,000 theaters. The assassin drama starring Blake Lively and Jude Law has made just $5.1 million worldwide, but it reportedly cost up to $50 million to make. Definitely not the studio\u2019s tempo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s it for this weekend.
