Will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/jumanji-the-next-level\/275172\"><em>Jumanji:<\/em>\u00a0<\/a><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Next Level<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> be the first <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jumanji <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">film to make a billion worldwide? This isn\u2019t an RPG, so that question is rhetorical.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rounding Out The Rest Of The Box Office<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Frozen 2 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was finally dethroned to #2 this week, but the animated sequel has some chill box office news of its own, as <a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/frozen-2-box-office-countdown\/\">it just became Disney\u2019s sixth billion-dollar film of 2019<\/a> with over $1.03 billion worldwide. And it may soon surpass <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aladdin<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joker<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Toy Story 4<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to become the fifth highest-grossing film of 2019 overall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Audiences haven\u2019t been nearly as excited for this week\u2019s two other wide releases. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Richard Jewell <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Warner Bros) debuted with just $4.7 million domestically, well below expectations, landing at #4 under <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knives Out <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Liongsate), which has been in theaters for three weeks. Similarly, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Black Christmas <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Universal) failed to reignite cult love for the franchise with just $4.4 million, just barely edging past <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ford v Ferrari <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Fox) at $4.1 million in its fifth weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rest of the Top 10 is a predictable slide down three spots to make way for the week\u2019s wide releases. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Queen &amp; Slim <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Universal), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Sony), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dark Waters <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Focus Features), and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">21 Bridges <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(STX) all maintained their respective positions, with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">21 Bridges <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">having the sharpest drop since last week at 58%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One notable mention this week is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uncut Gems <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(A24), which debuted in just five theaters, but still managed to hit #14 with $537,242, a per-theater average of $107,448. That\u2019s a new record for A24 and one of the best averages of 2019 thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/uncut-gems-review\/\">excellent reviews<\/a> and strong word of mouth.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And They\u2019re Out<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three films entered. Three films left. First, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Midway <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Lionsgate) managed to hold relatively strong, dropping two spots to #11 after six weeks at the box office. That\u2019s honestly better than expected, but the war drama is likely still a flop with just $122.5 million worldwide against an estimated production budget of $100 million, not including marketing costs and lower returns from overseas ticket sales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Playing with Fire <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Paramount) also fell off after six weeks, but from #8 to #12. The family firefighter movie made $49.4 million worldwide (mostly domestic) against an estimated budget of $29.9 million. That might just be barely enough for this film to be in the green.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last Christmas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Universal), which fell seven spots to #17, also in its sixth weekend. It made $100.8 million, mostly overseas. But with a low reported budget of $25 million, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last Christmas <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">isn\u2019t a lump of coal by any means.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s it for this weekend.
