This week,<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ford v Ferrari<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> left all other films in the dust, but that doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s already a surefire winner financially&#8230;yet.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Week\u2019s Top Earner \u2013 \u2018Ford v Ferrari\u2019<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JslAeRLzhl0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The racing drama from director James Mangold starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale scored $31 million domestically in its opening weekend, plus an extra $21.4 million internationally.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At an estimated $97.6 million, this is a high-budget film considering its original subject matter, but its A+ Cinemascore and potential awards season momentum could easily cruise <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/ford-v-ferrari\/291168\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ford v Ferrari<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to becoming a bigger hit than 20th Century Fox (and Disney) might have initially anticipated, as well as one of James Mangold highest-grossing films domestically.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rounding Out The Rest Of The Box Office<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you might have noticed, I don&#8217;t have a #2 and #3 as usual and that&#8217;s for a reason. The other two wide releases this week were <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/charlies-angels\/251587\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charlie\u2019s Angels<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atomtickets.com\/movies\/the-good-liar\/282071\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Good Liar<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which didn\u2019t manage to crack the Top 3, despite <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Midway <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Playing with Fire <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">each grossing less than $9 million domestically in their second weekends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In its first weekend, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charlie\u2019s Angels <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Sony) made just $8.3 million in over 3,400 theaters, which is only a fraction of the opening weekend of the original <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charlie\u2019s Angels <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in 2000 ($40.1 million) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charlie\u2019s Angels: Full Throttle <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">($37.6 million). And that\u2019s not adjusting for inflation. The 2019 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charlie\u2019s Angels <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">does have a far lower budget reportedly at about $48 million compared to its predecessors, but middling reviews might keep these angels from getting another call to action anytime soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Good Liar <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Warner Bros) landed at #7 this week with $5.6 million in over 2,400 theaters, which is a smaller release than everything else above it at the box office. That\u2019s actually slightly above expectations for this literary adaptation starring Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen, but it\u2019s yet another box office miss for Warner Bros, right after its previous adaptations <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goldfinch<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doctor Sleep <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(to name a few) have failed to make an impression with general audiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of the other films in the Top 10 faced only minor drops, with the exception of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doctor Sleep<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which fell four spots to #6, while <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last Christmas <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Universal) held on strong at #5. And <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/atomtickets.com\/movie-news\/why-joker-is-doing-so-well\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joker <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Warner Bros) finally hit $1 billion this past week, joining the likes of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aquaman <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Dark Knight<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> franchise.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And They\u2019re Out<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In just its third weekend, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terminator: Dark Fate <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Paramount) plummeted six spots to #11, winding down a disastrous box office run similar to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Men in Black: International <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dark Phoenix<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Domestically, the film has only made $56.8 million, but its international numbers are keeping it relatively afloat with $233.6 million worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Addams Family <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(MGM) fell five spots to #15 in its sixth weekend, proving it had a strong early start without many spider legs to stand on once the Halloween season wrapped up. The animated family film made $94.5 million domestically ($168.6 million worldwide) against a mid-sized budget reported to be around $40 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s it for this weekend.
