But Shawshank was one of the best-ever adaptations of one of King’s stories, and it wasn’t even horror. Adapted from his novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption and directed by longtime King collaborator Frank Darabont, it’s one of Hollywood’s most classic tales perseverance and triumph. Tim Robbins turned in a career-best performance as Andy Dufresne, a mild-mannered accountant who is wrongly convicted of murder. Morgan Freeman won a Best Actor nomination for his work as Red. On February 18, 2001, at the Daytona 500, perennial underdog Waltrip finally broke his 462-race losing streak. But the race he won came at the cost of his friend, Dale Earnhardt Sr., who tragically died in a devastating crash on the last lap after blocking the line of cars to let Waltrip pass him and take the lead and his son, Dale Earnhardt Jr., to take second. The story of greatest triumph and deepest tragedy in the same moment is one that transcends racing itself.

5. ‘The Secret World of Arrietty’ – Studio Ghibli Fest 2019

Release Date: Sunday, September 29 – Monday, September 30

Continuing with the Studio Ghibli Fest 2019, another Studio Ghibli classic is returning to theaters. The 2010 anime, based on the novel The Borrowers, was Ghibli stalwart Hiromasa Yonebayashi’s feature film directorial debut. Shawn, a human boy, has his world upended into the magical when he spies Arrietty, out on an errand. He follows the tiny girl back to where she lives and discovers an entire world of little people, called the Borrowers, living in secret beneath the floorboards. The pair form a friendship that soon blossoms into a heartwarming adventure.
